Here’s hoping the expanded aspect ratio footage makes its way to the 3D Blu-ray… this is very promising especially because this is not exclusive to IMAX and it will be playing in other compatible screens. I wish upcoming Marvel films and other such films follow the same pattern as well. Will be watching it in standard 2.39:1 3D in cinemas as always.

I wonder if this is Gunn outplaying IMAX at their own shitty game. Make a movie with regular widescreen like the good old days and then they can’t claim exclusivity over the world’s most common home media format.
I could see him doing that because clearly he loves the frame breaks as his are the only Marvel movies with them IIRC. So he went out of his way to protect the 3D theatrical experience no matter what format you watch in. If so, salute to him, and I hope that also means it will make it to 3D Blu-ray (but I won’t hold my breath). |

In order for this to work it would need to be build on a flat 1.85 template, what we received from Disney is only in scope 2.39 they did not ask to build it on a different template for expanded ratio scenes.

James Gunn says it's more like 10 versions, not "600"

10 versions? Sheesh, what's up with all of these Marvel films having almost as many different cuts to them as Dune 1984?

Yeah if they do a decent job with the conversion this should look really amazing, lots of opportunities for pop-out and lots of depth if they do it right.

"Second best movie of the year after [Ant Man 3:] Quantumania?"
I can't tell if that's condemning GotG3 with faint praise, or if the poster actually means it's a standout film. |

I saw this tonight. It's easily the best MCU movie since Infinity War...coming from someone who thinks these movies are "the most ok movie series of all time", only having seen them because I watch almost anything in 3D. The villain here though is written well on paper, the actor is perry bad, not Joel Schumacher bad... but almost.
The 3D Definity wasn't as strong as the first two films, sadly. 3D on par with the last Spiderman. Looks like Marvels days of spending the extra cash on deeper depth is over. |
