I was wondering the same. I just hope that Disney is having some changes with Iger.

Here’s hoping the expanded aspect ratio footage makes its way to the 3D Blu-ray… this is very promising especially because this is not exclusive to IMAX and it will be playing in other compatible screens. I wish upcoming Marvel films and other such films follow the same pattern as well. Will be watching it in standard 2.39:1 3D in cinemas as always.

I wonder if this is Gunn outplaying IMAX at their own shitty game. Make a movie with regular widescreen like the good old days and then they can’t claim exclusivity over the world’s most common home media format.

I could see him doing that because clearly he loves the frame breaks as his are the only Marvel movies with them IIRC. So he went out of his way to protect the 3D theatrical experience no matter what format you watch in. If so, salute to him, and I hope that also means it will make it to 3D Blu-ray (but I won’t hold my breath).

Doctor Strange has the frame opening uneven at the hospital when Strange is looking at the Ancient One's soul outside the building when she's looking at the lightning bolts. That is the almost near as frame breaking an Marvel Studios' movie had.

In order for this to work it would need to be build on a flat 1.85 template, what we received from Disney is only in scope 2.39 they did not ask to build it on a different template for expanded ratio scenes.

Are there any 1.85/1.90 PLF screens in your theater?

We do have 1.85 with Dbox but we are not considered PLF because the screen is not at the minimum required size for height and width for it unfortunately.

The next time I watch it will be on Dolby Cinema, then ScreenX, then 3D 4DX, and after that 3D IMAX.

I’ll be seeing this in 4DX. My 4DX theatre had the 1.85:1 aspect for Avatar 2, so hopefully it will have the same here!

James Gunn says it's more like 10 versions, not "600"

Someone needs to ask him if he can stop Disney reducing it down to 1 when it comes to putting it out on disc. I don't think it's impossible this time...

10 versions? Sheesh, what's up with all of these Marvel films having almost as many different cuts to them as Dune 1984?

As for my general thoughts:
• Easily the best of the 3 stand-alone GotG films
• James Gunn's absolute masterpiece as a director
• Second best MCU movie of the year so far after Quantumania
• Chukwudi Iwuji is absolutely amazing here, as befits someone trained by the Royal Shakespear Company - his performance is truly Shakespearean!
• Probably the most accessible MCU movie for general audiences since SMNWH

The cast is of course very good BUT it lacks the gravitas that older actors like Angela Bassett, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer have brought to other recent MCU movies.

Spoilery stuff:
[Show spoiler]
• None of the Guardians died - although of course there are some close calls
• Adam Warlock starts off fighting Guardians but eventually comes around to side with them.
• Fun small parts include Nathan Fillion and Gunn's wife. Yondu appears briefly as an apparition. Stallone gets two or three small scenes.
• Post-credits scene includes fun reference to GotG Holiday Special AND promises that Star Lord will return.....
I plan to see this in IMAX 3D on May 10th BluBonnet, I’ve seen GOTG and GOTG Vol. 2 in IMAX 3D back in 2014 and 2017 respectively, and I plan to do the same for Vol. 3 as well, I’ll be giving my thoughts on the 3D conversion after I see this movie.

Yeah if they do a decent job with the conversion this should look really amazing, lots of opportunities for pop-out and lots of depth if they do it right.

"Second best movie of the year after [Ant Man 3:] Quantumania?"

I can't tell if that's condemning GotG3 with faint praise, or if the poster actually means it's a standout film.

I saw this tonight. It's easily the best MCU movie since Infinity War...coming from someone who thinks these movies are "the most ok movie series of all time", only having seen them because I watch almost anything in 3D. The villain here though is written well on paper, the actor is perry bad, not Joel Schumacher bad... but almost.

The 3D Definity wasn't as strong as the first two films, sadly. 3D on par with the last Spiderman. Looks like Marvels days of spending the extra cash on deeper depth is over.

Wait, what? He was trained in the Royal Shakespeare Company, he's one of the absolute best villains they've ever had.
