You don't need to spent 200 million dollars to make it good. Go back to basic.
Hire someone like John Krasinski to direct, A quiet place had more suspense than any of the three Jurassic world movies. That's what the franchise needs, imo.
It's a great idea, but it'll probably never happen. Universal's always gonna go for the 'Kids love dinosaurs' market with a Jurassic movie.

I have no idea what to expect here. Whether Koepp's return as screenwriter is a good thing or not, we'll have to wait and see. He did write Jurassic Park, but he also wrote The Lost World, and many fans of that film - myself included - will admit that the script could have been better. But at least people can be relieved Colin Trevorrow and company aren't writing this one.

The most intriguing thing is that it's reportedly going to be something of a soft reboot. No Trevorrow, no returning cast members. Still part of the same continuity as the Park and World movies, though. I wonder if this means it will explore the world where dinosaurs exist in the wild, or if they'll explain that the animals were all rounded up and captured?

I can find things to enjoy about the World trilogy, but preferably I'd like to see a shift in tone for this one. Less over-the-top and goofy, take it a bit more seriously. Dial back the scale, don't try as hard to make it big and epic. Depict the dinosaurs in a more animal-like manner like the original three (especially first two) movies did.

Did you not see The Lost World? The T. rexes are more about family than the raptors ever were!

Sure, but we also saw the Raptors team up and have a barbecue in nearly every movie.

Every time another soulless studio movie based on an IP gets made.

Personally, I'd let the series rest awhile. I couldn't even make it through the last one.

But here's an idea - why not do a Planet of the Apes and take it to the future where dinosaurs rule the land and humankind is the minority?

There was an episode of Voyager where Dinosuars bailed out and evolved.

The fact that they’re getting the writer of two of the original three films back is giving me strong The Force Awakens vibes off of this announcement.

I don’t consider the return of Koepp to be a guarantee of quality. He wrote Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And also The Lost World, which has good things about it, but the script is definitely not one of them. That’s why there was the inside joke where Spielberg cast Koepp as the guy who gets eaten by the T-Rex in San Diego, credited as “Unlucky Bastard”

With writers, it's always tricky, especially with franchises. I'm sure a lot of what the final product ends up being is at least somewhat studio mandated. It's not necessarily indicative of their talents (though it often can be- they may be hired because they're newer or more willing to play by the rules, etc.) Koepp also wrote the first Spider-Man movie, Panic Room, which a lot of folks really like, etc. His resume is a pretty solid mix of some big hitters, a few stinkers, and a few in-betweens.

The only thing that really worries me is that the Jurassic franchise has long been- not necessarily aimed at, but very kid friendly. They know a huge part of the longevity and draw of the franchise is in the toys, and while dinosaur toys will always sell, regardless of whether there's an accompanying movie, and if said movie is kid appropriate, they also know that parents will want to bring their kids to the movie, and if they can't, that's a chunk of box office gone. So I don't necessarily see too many future Jurassic movies becoming too violent. But a healthy mix like the JP trilogy would be fine (say what you will about 3, but I love it, even if I admit it's not as "good" as the others). I'd love to be proven wrong, however. Give me blood, give me deaths of main characters on the good side, give me "scary" dinos.

David Leitch to direct the film: https://deadline.com/2024/02/jurassi...ch-1235815368/

Quote:
After recently tapping David Koepp to pen the script, Universal Pictures new Jurassic World pic is gaining some serious momentum as it has zeroed in on a familiar face to direct. While it is early days on the negotiation front, sources tell Deadline David Leitch is in early talks to direct the next film in the billion dollar franchise. The film is set to bow on July 2, 2025.

The new movie will be a completely fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World castmembers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill.

The film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce and David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will also produce through 87North. Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the Studio.

If a deal closes this would be a seismic attachment and be the biggest name to helm a film in the franchise since Steven Spielberg directed the first two Jurassic Park films in the 90s. Universal still sees this as an IP that hasn’t lost its luster with fans as the most recent pic, Jurassic World: Dominion, bringing in a billion dollars at the global box-office and have been anxious to dive back into the universe with a fresh take.

All that said, the studio is clearly not messing around tapping seasoned veteran scribe Koepp, who teamed with Spielberg on the first two Jurassic Park films, to pen this script and now tapping one of the more sought after directors in the industry to helm the film. Leitch’s unique style especially when it comes to jaw-dropping action sequences in films like Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train, is unlike anything the franchise has experienced with previous directors and would certainly give the series a fresh new look execs have wanted since the development of this film.

If a deal closes it also builds on the strong partnership Leitch and his production company 87North have had with the studio going back to when he was tapped to direct the Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. Leitch and his partner Kelly McCormick already have a deal with the studio and Universal looks to be very high on his next film The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling, which is set to bow this May.

I had zero interest in seeing another movie in the franchise, but I have to admit I'm very curious to see what David Leitch will do with material.

I like all six films so far, but I honestly don't see where else it can go. The dinosaurs are all freed to co-exist with humans, and trying to re-capture them would feel like too much of a retread. I respect David Koepp as a writer, but I think its best to leave the franchise alone.
