Nothing in that quote suggests that Disney has been receptive or than any actual process is underway. Wishlist.

As well done as The Sixth Sense was, I never felt like ever watching it again after the first viewing. The ending just did that to me. I never felt that way with The Village.

i had quite the opposite reaction. for me it was one of those movies - like Christopher Nolan's Memento - which demanded a second viewing to try to catch all the clues that were missed the first time

I don't know what to think about this news. I mean, it's great that it might happen but it's Disney. They're not doing anything with their back catalog at the moment unless Shyamalan is just planning to inquire about a re-release hoping the studio lets him do it as a favor. But how much pull, if any, does the Director still have? He was a one-time Hollywood darling but he hasn't been any of that in a long time.

I can see this happening if there's any truth to the speculation that Disney is about to open the floodgates for physical media. But if there's any controversy here, it's all the speculation. We shall see.
All of Us Strangers is getting an UHD by Criterion, so I would say that the directors have some pull at the very least. That film is owned by Disney. I wouldn't rule out an UHD of The Village coming from Criterion.

This thing will NEVER see the light of day on disc again...

There's obviously a story behind this that none of us knows but I'd be willing to bet it has something to do with Shayamalin's ego and pissing contest he got into with a studio head not over this title but some other movie that came out around the time this movie SHOULD have come to BLU....

Would love to get this on 4K. I have mixed feelings on the movie overall, but the positives include gorgeous cinematography (some of Deakins best work, and by far the best of any M. Night movie), an incredible score, interesting themes, good casting, and a really engaging first hour.

I think M. Night’s run of Sixth Sense / Unbreakable / Signs is one of the best writer/director runs in film history. But he’s never really gotten back to that level. I will always defend Signs, actually my favorite of his work, as an apocalypse movie not an alien movie. I think the main criticism of that film completely misses the point. It’s a GREAT character drama and some scares are legitimately, well, scary.

I think the criticisms of The Village are more fair, and the audience I saw it with at an early screening in July 2004 audibly HATED the movie. I actually think this story has a good idea at its heart, about grief and fear and the way an entire community or society can buy into a lie, but it was a mistake to push that interesting concept into another BIG TWIST. The film is at its best when it’s a character drama and not a wannabe horror/thriller. The film was marketed wrong, too, but a lot of the fault lies with the screenplay.

After 2002, Split is my favorite of his work, but The Village is probably next as a flawed but still interesting and well directed/shot/scored/acted film.

Does anything in the article suggest that Disney has not been receptive, or that any actual process is not underway?

Should we be creating threads for every single movie ever made, just because it hasn't been officially denied? C'mon.

I adore The Village.

Say what you will about the twist and story and such, but for the cinematography, music, and performances alone it's a great watch.

James Newton Howard did a lot of his best work with M. Night. I wish they'd collaborate again.
