Didn't care for H6. Felt like watching another old favourite afterwards, so plumped for La Cabina. Still excellent and long overdue for a Blu-ray/4K release, film materials permitting.

1. Child's Play (1988)
2. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
3. Friday the 13th (1980)

4. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

An improvement on III, bringing back the evil we all know and love. Well, kind of. The mask and upper body are all wrong (pretty sure I saw shoulder pads at some points). But it's nicely paced, relatively no-nonsense, completely nonsensical, has some decent kills and stalks. Add to that the legend that is Donald Pleasance and the cute-as-a-button Danielle Harris and you have a decent sub-90 minute slasher. But every time Michael was on screen I was completely taken out of the film, purely due to the atrocious costuming. Which is a real pity, because if they had put even a modicum of effort into the mask, this could have been great.

And, for what it's worth, I loved the ending.

5. Child's Play 2
A significant step up from the original: bigger budget, better pacing, better animatronics/puppetry. Loved Kyle, loved Andy, loved Chucky.

It also only occurred to me halfway through this that Andy in Toy Story is probably a reference to this protagonist.

I listened to a 1941 Inner Sanctum Mystery radio broadcast - ‘The Tell Tale Heart’ starring Boris Karloff.

I watched 2 episodes from season 1 of The Munsters (1965-66) Closed Casket Collection on DVD:
‘Knock Wood, Here Comes Charlie’ and ‘Autumn Croakus’.

I followed up with 2 episodes from 100 Years of Horror (1996) TV series hosted and narrated by Christopher Lee on DVD:
‘Boris Karloff’ and ‘Ghosts and Phantoms’.

Double bill main features:

(8) Saw (2004) DVD

There’s a lot more mystery in Saw than in most other horror/splatter/gore films and the storyline keeps you guessing throughout. I love any type of film with a twist and this one has several. It’s aged well, is still shocking and one of the best of its type.

(9) Dracula (1979) Blu-ray

Frank Langella is oh so suave as the seductive vampire Count in this beautifully filmed version that has good performances from the solid supporting cast and eerie atmosphere with gloriously lavish gothic sets.

I still haven't seen a single Saw movie, I really seem to be behind on that particular franchise.

Regarding that Dracula, I was waiting for the Indicator BD of that, but apparently it's Postponed Indefinately, which is disappinting. I will end up watching my DVD copy, which has the matte opened up so that it plays in 1.85:1 for this Halloween at some point.

Saw: I have the first 7 films in the franchise on DVD and my personal opinion: Saw is excellent, Saw II good, III is OK then they all go downhill and silly. I stopped buying them at Saw VII so have no idea what the other films in the franchise are like. I would only upgrade the original Saw but to be honest the PQ on that particular DVD is excellent and very watchable.

Dracula (1979): I too was waiting for Indicator to do something. We can but hope they or someone else will but we aren’t getting any younger that’s why I got the release I have. The PQ on the disc I have is more ‘good DVD’ than Blu-ray quality but the gothic sets, castle scenes with candles, spooky fog and the many full moon location shots deserve a good Blu-ray release.

A step up from the original, even if the kills are a bit tame (blame the censors). Ginny is a worthy successor to Alice. The only things I didn't like were the extended flashback opening and the ending - if anyone can explain it, put it in the comments, please.

Oddity (on Shudder) - It was just ok for me. Really well shot and some solid acting but a bit predictable. A shame as i was looking forward to this.
