I don't give a damn if Toshiba makes a BD player. My only concern is Universal/Paramount releasing on Blu at this point. Hopefully we'll hear an announcement soon.

I do. And anyone with a PS3 already has a Toshiba/Sony product as they work together on the chip set.

So anyone who feels this way should throw away their PS3 asap. haha

their loss.
Just watch them in a few months sneak in the back door of Blu-ray and pretend they were supporting us all along ("Toshiba, a pioneer of HD technology, is releasing a BD player....") lol

Toshiba's gross sales are over $65 billion a year. The losses from HD-DVD are estimated to be around $350 million. Although it hurts to lose that much money, they can easily recover in the long run.

They will go Blu by summer. If they don't, well so what.

Exactly. High speed, low cost, NAND memory will let them dominate the audio MP3, and digital camera storage technologies.

In my opinion, this could lead to HD movies on a memory stick type device. While this would need studio support to succeed, they shouldn't go up against the blu-camp to do it. A better approach is a blu-ray dual player which does BD and memory chip. Give the consumer a choice.

They should give the option of moving the movie contents to the chip so people can create a portable copy of the movie for portable players. But they should not allow the chips to be copied. Would take all kinds of license keys, encryption and copy protection, but it would be ultra cool.

I'd say they wouldn't be likely to announce a player till 3rd quarter for potential 4th quarter sales.

It was rumored they were aiming for July 08 for a player at the same time it was rumored they were dumping HD DVD.

There will be a Toshiba BD Player soon.

Things are happening too fast for them to have plans for BD. As what big corporations all do, they deny it until the final detail plans are layed out. It is better for them to announce the death of HDDVD now and leave the BD plan as a separate announcement / plan later.

If we've learned anything, its that you should never trust what a company says when they talk about "future plans", considering even a few days ago they "had no plans to drop hddvd"

There is no way they were going to abandon HDDVD AND announce bluray support in the SAME PRESS RELEASE. They will wait a few days/weeks to allow the news to set in, but they've likely already started moving forwards. HDM has too much to offer.

That's like saying Angelina Jolie won't adopt another child from a third-world country (not saying it's a bad thing though!). It's just only a matter of time before they do!
