it is out today on hd-dvd, however, i dont think Paramount is stupid enough to not have this one prepared for bluray release. It may not be one of thier first titles, but i am sure it is far enough along for a release date to be known

Talking "BEOWULF" excellent in HD!

First off, I'll preface this post by saying that I own both formats. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. I don't have a preference for either, as both are excellent, though I'm glad Blu-Ray won the battle. Just got through watching this film, and was very impressed, though a loss-less track would have helped. The HD transfer greatly improves on the theatrical presentation, as it allows the facial expressions to shine through the motion capture treatment. The only wooden performance continues to be the queen, though Robin Penn has little range to begin with. The extras on the disc are terriffic as well. I'd own the HD deck just to have this and "ZODIAC".

Studios buy the rights to distribute the movies. The producers are the ones that actually finance the movies. Paramount paid for the rights to distribute in the US, and Warner paid for the rights to distribute in the UK. Simple as that. Same movie though.

Looks like Paramount is brining 'An Officer and a Gentleman' to blu-ray July 24th.

Or in some cases studios want to share the costs/risks of movies (especially big budget ones) by divvying the distribution rights in exchange for funding for the production of that movie. The best example of this is Titanic which is a FOX production, but when it went over budget during production, Paramount was brought in to provide additional funding in exchange for Paramount getting distribution rights in the US/Canada with Fox distributing in the rest of the world.

Glad you noticed that. I was just wondering why they were going to continue releasing on HD DVD at least through July since the article mentioned it coming to both blu-ray and HD DVD.

i rented this on old school dvd and was really impressed, when i heard this was animated i thought failure for sure, the cgi looked really cool and i thought the movie itself although slow through a couple parts was really good. i will buy this one when it comes to blu.

it deffinately has a 5 star pq, and as to the comment about 5 star audio iwth dd+ dont judge it till you hear for yourself, i can see why they gave that rating. spec *****s are just that... but it is a work of art. not a fan of angelina jolie as herself in it.... but what ever... i lived through it

This doesn't seem like my kind of movie, the anamation of it and all. But I'll watch anything when its Blu. Therefore, it will have to go blu to get my attention (or money, if you must).
Probably only a rent.

Default Beowulf on Blu-ray??

Sorry to start a new thread about something that may have already been asked somewhere else. I tried to search for a thread which might answer my questions, but alas, I found nothing. Perhaps I was searching in the wrong place, but I figure that the "Blu-Ray movies and Releases" forum is the proper area. So here goes; Below is a link to the Amazon UK website.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beowulf-Blu-...5640013&sr=8-2

I'm not sure if the link works, but it takes you to the Amazon page that is selling Beowulf on Amazon.co.uk

Obviously I'm ignorant of this and I am not sure how this works.

So here are my questions. Why did Paramount/Dreamworks release Beowulf, on Blu-Ray, over there and not in the US? Why do the movie companies release movies such as The Island, Starship Troopers, and Beowulf over in Europe, but they don't release them here? I mean aren't these owned by American film companies? Don't American made films generally gross the most in the States? If so, why wouldn't they also market the discs in the US? I mean people have been wondering when Paramount would start the realeasing blu-rays, and the answer is,"They ARE!!" Just not in their own backyard.

If someone knows, or if someone has a link to another thread that might answer my question, I am all eyes. Thanx.

Again, if this is old, or if it's been beat to death, I apologize.
