Personally I think Universal just has too many good titles in HD to ignore. King Kong and Hulk are both absolutely amazing in terms of PQ.

$500 for a PS3, $400 for an A1 or A2 = $900. Who needs a $1200 LG uni player?

All of which will come to Blu-ray if you show Universal that Blu-ray is more profitable. The only way to do that is to NOT pay them a dime. By helping prolong the war you are only ruining it for all of the other blu-ray users.

Basically you are saying, "I'm ruining everything for the rest of you because I have no will power".

Like I mentioned before, the combo players removes any need for any studio to produce on other formats. The player will play both regardless, so Universal will have a disc that works for 95% (after 5 years - my estimate) of players out there without having to start producing on Blu-ray. Are they really going to bend over for that 5%? My guess is no. Same the other way around though. Is Lionsgate or Disney or Fox going to start making HD DVDs for the 5% of the market that doesn't own a player capable of playing Blu-ray movies? Hell no.

That's all assuming that the combo players are actually successful. Even with a combo players out there you will still see people buying much more blu-ray movies than HD-DVD.

In the end HD-DVD will still fail. I believe that even with combo players you will still see Universal switch to blu-ray because blu-ray will become the norm.

I don't believe that the combo players will succeed. Even if it does it will become a niche product much like the DVD/VHS combo players.

Correct.

I am an early adopter. Always have been. You guys that have the "will power" will have to fight the battle without me!

Even with combo players HD DVD needs more studio support. As BD tecnology matures it will make HD DVD obsolete.

I'm an early adopter aswell. The truth is that I haven't touched my hd-dvd player in months and have no intentions of touching it. It's a inferior piece of crap player that plays inferior movies and nothing more. To switch sides to that pile of filth that is HD-DVD should be completely unthinkable and undesirable. The future of HD films is at stake and we do not need people endorsing the inferior product.

That is the key. We hoped Universal would see the light soon. This makes that far less likely. But it also slams the door shut on any BD studio neutrality. Although the doublethinking HD DVD zealot will see it otherwise.

Some see the LG deck as an HD DVD player, not a combo player. Truelly sad and pathetic.

This pretty much guarantees BD dominance and HD DVD going into a slow fade. Even the Warner announcement is admission that production costs are a non-issue, so that throws that tired old argument out the window too.

Either way it is a win for BD.

Successful: Increased BD sales
Not successful: Holds of HD DVD sales.

In the meantime those interested in BD feel that much more sure that there will be good options in the future should Universal Studios never see the light, so rather than spend $1200 on crap, they can get one of the best HD players available for $500/$600 now and deal with things in the future.

I for one would never buy an LG product. I'm thrilled with my BDP S-1 and picture quality. HD DVD only has Universal to hold over our heads. I can live without them. If its a must have then I do what I did for the wifes birthday and gave her Van Helsing on dvd. No matter what happens, more Blu titles will be sold because of a dual format player. When Pirates or Spiderman becomes available and they can't keep them in stock as they fly off shelves, Universal will take notice. One last thing, how many Playstation 3's will be in peoples homes before years end. Thats alot of potential movie buyers. Either way we win,

Even if at the same price or lower price, the PS3 is the better deal.

PS3>>>>LG dual format device.
