Haven't picked up the Blu-ray yet, but I need to. I got it in the ultra mega DVD set that came out. I thought it was a million times better than the Richard Lester version, with all the made up powers and stupid dialog.

No, the theatrical version is the one with a lot of bad Lester footage thrown in there.

See Super Kisses, Cellophane S-Shields, and Super Multiple Man for starters.

Go watch the final battle in the fortress. A scene that was almost entirely reshot by Lester

As far as the "really bad footage", the only footage of questionable quality was the reveal scene, since they had to use the screentest because it was never shot. Otherwise it was all taken from original negative

So what is there to like in the theatrical version?

That wasn't shot by Richard Donner.

The only thing I can think of is the first time Clark changes into Superman in the back alley with the running change. I missed that in the Donner cut. Other than that, there's not much redeemable.

Donner's cut is miles above the crap Lester put together.

I do have to say that as a child I liked the original version but now that I've watched the Donner cut it does feel a lot better story wise and I believe overall superior.

I like both cuts, though I prefer the original theatrical version. The music cues work much better in the Lester version for instance. I blame Kevin Smith for all the hate the Lester version gets now. He's the one that started goofing on it publicly(super-kiss, the cellophane S shield, etc) and it snowballed from there.

We will, you poof!! J/K!!

Nah, I got a bit teary at the end of The Donner Cut. It managed to not only bring a piece of my childhood back intact,(most childhood movies as crap when you watch them back), but also partially corrected a cinematic injustice that should never have happened.
