Arrow Pixar's NEWT (Rumor: Cancelled) Concept Art released

Okay, so it's pretty far out there, but most of us love Pixar. I thought I would fill you in that newt is taking the old release date of Cars 2 (which has been moved forward:

Cars 2 - Summer 2011

newt - Summer 2012

Pixar's Newt is No More?

Quote:
“What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other?” Apparently nothing. The plan was for Pixar to create a film about Newt and Brooke, two newts that go on a crazy adventure and learn finding a mate is no easy task, even when there’s only one choice.

As reported by Pixar Talk, Disney vet Floyd Norman visited the Animation Guild Blog and replied to a comment questioning Newt’s status simply by saying, “Oh, and Newt is dead.” When another visitor probed for more details, Norman answered, “Naturally, our pals up north run a tight ship, so it’s not polite to provide details at this time."

Of course this isn’t an official announcement that the Gary Rydstrom project has been canned, but the outlook is grim. Another site user suggested Monsters Inc. 2 might fill the vacancy. If that’s the case, the demise of Newt will go overlooked. Clearly that concept has been all over the place in terms of status updates; one month it’s happening and the next it’s not. But hey, this is the company that brought us masterpieces like Ratatouille, WALL-E and Up; in Pixar we trust.

Floyd's one of the few (and I do mean FEW ) voices of reason on the Guild blog, and if he says there's a reason, there probably is--

And given that the story probably had our romantically squabbilng amphibians escaping into the wild, the reason was probably the same reason as every other movie Disney's canceled as of late:
Rampant paranoia and superstition about why "Princess & the Frog" didn't make money.

(Romantic frogs, romantic newts, close enough, they're still evil and unlucky! )

You make some good points. Disney was afraid that it would be a financial disappointment. Somehow the story brings to mind: The Wild, Over The Hedge, Open Season, ect

Default officially Cancelled

It’s hard to imagine that Pixar’s sorcery couldn’t make any project thrive, but such is the case as today we’ve learned that they’ve canceled their upcoming film, Newt. The Pixar Blog reports that they learned from Walt Disney Company archivist Dave Smith (or a representative), that “the film has been canceled.” This wasn’t totally out of left field. Newt was originally slated to hit theaters next summer, but was moved back to 2012 to make room for Cars 2. However, with both Brave (formerly The Bear and the Bow) and Monsters, Inc. 2 set for 2012, Newt mysteriously disappeared from the schedule. And then in February, Disney legend and animation industry insider Floyd Newman said point blank, “Newt is dead.” Looks like he was right. Sadly, Cars 2 lives even though I think the largest success of the first film was in the ability to sell disgusting loads of merchandise. Newt sounded far more interesting.

Here was the plot synopsis offered for Newt from back in 2008:

Quote:
What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? That’s the problem facing Newt and Brooke, heroes of “newt,” the Pixar film by seven-time Academy Award(R) winner for sound Gary Rydstrom, and director of Pixar’s Oscar-nominated short, “Lifted.” Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science.

Me too. This was one of the more intriguing concepts I had seen from Pixar. Would prefer to have new movies rather than sequels to everything they've already done.

What's wrong with Pixar doing sequels, they have never made a bad film, EVER, look at Toy Story 2, now wasn't that better than the first one? Yes it was, so no need to worry, anyway we Brave right in the middle of it and also, also excluding Toy Story 3 which was wanted anyway, it's only two sequels, so what are you complaining about? Pixar wouldn't be making them if John Lasseter didn't beleive there was a story to be told, they aren't all about money, unlike most studios nowadays, this is why they have never made a bad movie, just think about, these sequels are not cash-ins.

Newt maybe cancelled, but the chances are there will be another original story after Monsters, Inc. 2, since apart from The Incredibles, no other Pixar film would work for a sequel. The only reason it seems like there are a lot of sequels is because Pixar have really only ever been abaout original stories and also, to date, the only movies they have offically annouced will be released are the sequels. I to am sad that Newt ahs been cancelled, but if Pixar are bold enough to make sequels, which have a reputation of being bad, then it shows that there is another story to be told.

Its four, total. People are complaining because we like fresh new characters and worlds.

Apart from Toy Story 3, which no one is complaining about, it is only two sequels. You make it sound like they're doing a sequel to everyone of their movies, which they're not. Just remember that Brave is coming out right in the middle of the lot.

I wil guarantee you that after Monsters, Inc 2, Pixar will get make to making original movies.
