Is the text German only?
The German release does not feature a booklet.

Guy doing the restoration posted this on Reddit.

Quote:
It should be noted, this is not the final color grade...hell, nothing is final until it's released. I just keep plugging away as long as I can.
He also claimed when asked about a 4k disc that the producer has a deal with Shout.

Quote:
I'm just handling the restoration. I believe the producer already has deal with Shout Factory, so I'd imagine it'll make it's way there eventually.

Looks good so far

It's a fine fabulous Saturday. I'm gonna pull out and throw on my German capelight disc of Assault on Precinct 13, lick my wounds and cry a bit, because there's still no 4k uhd available of this grand Carpenter matinee marvel.....

Might be heresy but I don't know this needs any higher rez. I seem to love it at any resolution in any format, but haven't felt an uptick in entertainment past the DVD, though I have the blu. That's in contrast to HIGHLANDER, which to me only fully recreated the theatrical experience for me when it hit blu. Maybe there's a rawness to low-rez ASSAULT that just kinda clicks for me, but I know, mileage varies.

The blu rays of this film are fairly unremarkable. I think a 4k uhd taken from the OCN will give this film an even more grungy, visceral feel. Improved grain resolution, improved color palette, better contrast, more depth, better management of highlights....It's all there for the taking. I've enjoyed virtually every single 4k scan remastered blu or 4k uhd of flicks that folks said would not benefit from 4k, including old grindhouse flicks, and especially things filmed on 16mm stock. The sound should be great also. I'm looking forward to it!

That's very interesting. I haven't gotten a 4K TV yet, and was beginning to think that the 4K upgrades were often anything but, given the color and brightness issues (look at the trek movie uhd thread and those movies aren't even out yet), but you've given me cause to reconsider (and probably cost me a lot of money!)

If you're familiar with the Capsaholic website, and know how to work the site and compare screen shots from the different discs, go look at the 4k uhd vs the blu ray, for Basic Instinct, and for In the Line of Fire. Toggle back and forth between the 4k and standard screen captures (which you can do simply by moving your mouse on and then off the screen capture). It will have you RUNNING to get a 4k setup. And those are just screen shots, not nearly good as the discs in motion, in person, on a quality 4k television.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...170201&i=1&l=0

and

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...170625&i=6&l=0

Be sure to spend some time to figure out how to toggle the screenshot comparisons back and forth. Then try magnifying some of the screen captures, while doing this. You'll be blown away.

Of course, it always depends on how lame the older blu ray's transfer is, of a given title, and how good of a job they do on the new 4k uhd disc. But the upgrade can be MASSIVE in some cases. It's still fairly significant in most cases regardless. And the larger and higher quality your display is, the more shocking the improvements in color, clarity and light management can be.

You're KILLIN' me with this, lol. With all the great releases recently, I was SURE this would be the announcement when I saw the thread get bumped.

EDIT: Yeah, yeah I know I "bumped" it too, but at least I replied right away.

The restoration has long been completed. It's out of Deaf Crocodile's hands now, and likely down to Shout Factory to announce it.

Question for anyone who knows the movie better than I do. The daytime scenes, especially the scene with the little girl, look like the yellow-gold "sunset filter" that so many movies have had applied post-mortem on disc. Is this really how the movie always looked, or is this something new?

Has there been any news on a release date? Googled the heck out of this, nothing since Jan this year?
