(1) Amazon.com is not the source of the majority of Blu-ray, far from it.

(2) If the economy gets so bad that Amazon.com goes out of business, then Blu-ray's are going to be the least of anyone's concern.

(Amazon.com recently reported 27 cents a share profit, which actually beat the street by 2 cents.)

I would reacquaint yourself with what you know about the Federal Reserve; not requiring Congress to act does not make it completely and totally independant. However, if Congress wanted to take control of the Fed they certainly could...because the Fed is STILL a government entity.

Look it up if you don't believe me.

Exclamation Stop it, already!

I hope I only have to say this once. The concept of most American's living pay check to pay check may not be fact as much as it is media hype. While many American's DO live that way, I do not believe MOST do.

The truth is lots of people still have savings, and disposable income. But in tough times, even people with money tighten the belt a little. People with money become more careful of it when economy is bad. Not because they have less, but because they have money smarts.

Many American's live paycheck to paycheck simply because they don't know how to save. It may shock you to learn that much of our economy thrive on these habitual spenders. Many who are simply out of work, and thus out of money. Economy booms when the little guy works.

The flip side of the coin is this. For the majority of American's who are still working stock may suck, but prices are down. Gas prices are dropping like a stone, and thus the price of goods along side it. With companies struggling to stay afloat electronics retail has never looked so good. It is a buyers paradise right now - as long as you have a job and disposable income.

If the media doesn't put a positive spin on this soon, it will indeed be a very blue Christmas season. I don't mean that in the good blu-ray sense either.

i do think the media can hype things up a bit, but i don't think the media is overselling this one. people across the board are hurting. living paycheck to paycheck is a real reality for a lot of people. i would even venture to say that it affects most people here in america. the problems are real. there's no doubt about it.

I agree. Even the super rich lost money in this ordeal, but they are certainly not poor over it. Just have less. If you had 1.2 million in stock and it dropped to 800,000 it DOES suck, but are you "poor"? No. Just no longer a millionaire.

Lots of the super rich are cheap skates beyond belief. Their sense of entitlement is so huge that they expect many of the little things for free. Sure, they buy big homes, expensive cars, boats, and even planes. But they become like the stuffed shirts in those Wamu commercials. "Who's going to pay for this stuff?" Their ideal is life is paid for by new monies coming in. Having to pay out of pocket makes them cringe. They are simply not the spending type.

Unlike those who come from "old money" and can't spend it fast enough because they don't have any money sense. To them it is like air and expect to always have enough. In time they do get SOME financial sense and start to invest and even start businesses. By and large, they are still spoiled adult children when they can't get what they desire. Richie Rich, the poor little rich kid.
