Exclamation If Amazon get economically buried. Blu-ray shall fall

I was thinking that the majority of the blu-rays that are purchased are purchased online through Amazon.com. So, would this mean, since our economy is so bad, if amazon were to go out of business, would blu-ray go out of business as well?

I doubt very much so.

I actualy buy very little online, most of my purchases are done at Future Shop, Wallmart and Metro Video (local store in Montreal).

I am sure I am not the only one doing this.

Unless things have changed, Amazon isn't the number one source for blu-rays, Best Buy is. I haven't seen the rankings mentioned lately though but I'd be surprised if that sort of thing changes any time soon.

Im serious, this is possible. We are in a desaterous economic state of affairs that is steadily barreling toward a reflection of the past. The Great Depression. If you dont agree with that, my advice to you is to get caught up with current affairs!
Whats next? Buy.com is hardly worth anything on Wallstreet, and amazon is right behind it despite its "online popularity"

well i cant vouch for america but i know its way overhyped in the UK, theres a slow down in the property market (well there had to be one eventually, the prices are a f***ing joke) and some people have over borrowed and cannot afford to repay which have resulted in some banks needing to be saved by the government..the rest is just the media if you ask me

Many people, myself included, prefer to have items in-hand when they purchase them.

My BDs are in the drive ~20 minutes after I leave Best Buy.
Also, didn't Amazon start raising their prices?
If they keep up, more people will go to Fry's/BB/Walmart/??? instead.

I have to go out today, BB will likely be on my list of places to stop by.
We'll see what is available or on sale.

So with Amazon expected fall within estimates for 3Q and being rated to perform/outperform in front of the announcement this evening, you are basing Amazon being economically buried on ?

edit: and yes I realize the stock is down significantly this year... almost all major stocks are.

Amazon is a large retailer, but it is not carrying Blu-Ray on it's shoulders. *Actually LOL*

Let's examine Best Buy alone: Wikipedia states that Best Buy operates ~1,150 stores. Now, let's imagine the title Iron man being released. Each Best Buy bought (speculated) 75 copies of this movie on Blu-Ray. 75 x 1150 = 86,250 (Remember, that's only ONE title). Do you think Amazon ordered that many?

Now, imagine all the stores: Wal-Mart (which, in 2005, had 6,200 stores), Buy.com, Circuit City, Fry's, Fred Meyers, Suncoast, Tower, Future Shop, etc, etc, etc; and multiple that figure by their stock of Blu-Ray discs--It's hard to fathom the large number we're speaking of.

Amazon is a big contributor, but SURELY not Blu-Rays main source.
