Thumbs up Well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought the set and have only good things to say. I seems as though they've made the movie more compatible to watch on an HD television. The night scenes seem so much more brilliant and detailed than when I watched the original series on HBO. Also the sound is much more dramatic and hearing the dialog during fight scenes or when they were talking low seems so much more managable on the Blu-Ray format. The other thing I noticed and enjoyed was the movie actually fills the entire television screen, no widescreen black border and full screen, inflated look, it seems to fit perfectly.

Well I would say buy it and enjoy it,

Nutty

I still agree too. I don't have TDK but this wins anyway!

I bought the BoB set on Amazon the other day when it was $45. Can't wait for it to get here!

It amazed me even on DVD...

I am about to watch Part 7 in a little bit, I wish there were more than 10 parts, i will definitely watch the other parts with all the extras, like the timeline and such.

Just finished part 7. This is without a doubt my number one blu ray title and I am sure TDK will be a close second. I really dont want it to end I only have 3 more hours

I concur. Band of Brothers is probably the best Blu-ray on the market and truly belongs in every home video library. Fantastic series, great picture quality, the audio quality blew me away, and exceptional bonus materials.

Default Kris Deering's review

Here is Kris Deering's take on BOB:

http://hometheatermag.com/moviereviews/120408band/

"This series was highly stylized and the grain played a big part in the look of the film. Contrast was also a big part with deep blacks and slightly overblown whites. Colors are a bit desaturated at times or take on a darker look than normal. This release looks a bit cleaned up compared to the HD DVD but that doesn’t serve the original intent quite as much. Detail doesn’t suffer too much but there were times when some of the facial features looked a bit soft in direct comparisons. Without having the other source to compare it would be hard to say how noticeable the effect would be. This is still a very dimensional HD image but it fell just a tad short of import release."

This pretty much confirms the DNR I was seeing and makes me mad that there's a release out there (HD-DVD import) with all the fine detail preserved. Most people won't care but people with projector screens will notice right away. Warner, stop using DNR in your new releases!!!

It's so fantastic, isn't it? I double dipped on the Amazon Cyber Monday deal and got it today. I have watched this several times over the year on SDDVD and am excited to take the journey again now on Blu. Number one indeed. I can't think of another title that should be in everyone's collection more than this one.

Crap...

I bought Band of Brothers for $25 on Amazon two years ago, and the picture and audio quality (DTS) on DVD is so good I swore I wouldn't upgrade. But now with the Blu-Ray checking in under $40, and with the DTS-HD Master Audio, I'm severely tempted.

From what I've previously read, the audio quality upgrade over the DVD is not as impressive as the video quality increase.

Can anyone that has own both copies present a realistic review of whether the Blu-Ray truly is a significant upgrade?

It is a little off topic,
try this link
HD DVD Review

Which has DVD vs HD DVD comparison.

I don't think with 30+ mbps video bitrate, BD could be worse than its rival.

I've found that the video improvements are more pronounced in some episodes than others. Some of the scenes in the snow in the Bastogne forest are incredibly clear. It seems to me that some dialog is clearer, but I haven't done an A/B comparison.

What is a big upgrade for me is the PiP commentary with the Easy Company veterans. I think that is worth an upgrade itself. If you've seen this series numerous times, the PiP commentary is a great new way to watch it.

Depends on your screen size. If you will be watching on > 50" screen, then it probably is worth the upgrade, especially for the PIP commentary. However, if your screen is < 50", then it is debatable as the legacy DTS was pretty good.
