OEM playback software, from *ANY* manufacturer, is severely lacking.
Once *we* get a Full Retail version of playback software(ArcSoft/PowerDVD) problems vanish!

Fighting with the stripped down OEM software is... not the best way to try and watch a Blu-ray.

I scrapped the WinDVD BD that came with these VAIOs - replaced it with PDVD and ArcSoft(and WinDVD 9) and haven't looked back.

OS is one aspect, availability of software is a big part of it too.

Sorry bro, have to call you out on just a flat out lie. If your iPhone 3G doesn't perform well it is user error unless you are wanting it to cook eggs. I've had my share of blackberries and Treo's, the iPhone blows them away.

Pc vs Mac: Let Microsoft keep producing products such as vista and this will be a Mac world in 10 years.

PC Windows "The Mojave Experiment" throw money at problems user here.

haha. Mac world in 10 years. Not everyone can afford a $1500 mac when a $600 dollar PC can do the same thing.

It was the same with DVD and bundled OEM software.

I like how the same people that say that Macs are better tend to say "Because the bundled software is good enough for me/most people." So...they...pay MORE...to SETTLE on good enough software. Huh.
That said, I love Windows because all my high-end programs and games run better. I love my Zune because I can use it to play uncompressed WMA. I am on the wait list for an Xperia X1 because it has a REAL keypad, in addition to the touchscreen (and also runs my aps).
Apple...has overpriced, underperforming products that rely on mind-control to sell I guess. The Apple cultists seldom have a lick of logic. And aren't they PART of the Blu Ray team? Not having the drives THEY support basically means they aren't making any money from the deal, doesn't it?

iPods can play uncompressed AIFF, WAV, Apple Lossless - who cares about WMA? Zunes are more unreliable than iPods, Vista sucks and XBOX 360s are more unreliable than PS3 and Wii. Fact, Fact and Fact. I have used PCs for years, and actually have more experience with them than I have had with Macs. But I use Apple products and software now, and I will never go back. Final Cut Studio rocks!

If we just rent 4 Blu-ray discs a month, that would beat Apple's price hands down at higher quality. On top of that, I have to buy their Apple TV and an HDTV while with Netfllix, I can just use my laptop. Not to mention the time it takes to download 25GB of HD quality movies.
Because "Stubborn" is their middle name. Apple separates themselves from everyone else. Apple closely resembles Kim Jong Il. Sorry for the politics.

In the UK, corporations are often referred to in the plural, even if the company name is singular. Har in the US of A, meanwhile, the singular verb "is" often gets used for ever-thayng.

Apple's "in hand" answer to the optical disc is the iPod. Gosh, I see more iPod cradles for sale than BD players. Some are designed to work with HDTVs or multi-channel sound systems linked to HDTVs. My dumb guess is that the bitrate and resolution of any video content of iPod stuff is pretty low, but sooner or later they will release one that has 1280x720p h.264 video with a circa 5 mbps bitrate that downloads or shares fairly fast and looks good enough on Homer Simpson's flatscreen. Bart will prefer that to BDs because the content will be easier to rip and share with friends.

Even so, Apple is less a threat to BD than Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, and Philips. All of them are peddling bargain bundles of standard DVD players with 5 channel sound sets and HDMI cables for prices that easily beat stand alone BD players in some cases. Even the advertising confuses the buyers, claiming the standard DVD players with HDMI are "the ideal player for your HDTV." The parents are killing their own BD child.

this 'was' a MAC world at the begining until MAC and co were too full of themselves and the whole world left them behind and go dos/windows.
MS don't even exist then. Now we can see history repeating themselves, MAC and co are once again arrogant bcos of their ipod success. Their newest 'innovation' is a macbook that look like a big ipod with a big wheel for 'easy' text entry

MAC = Media Access Control
Mac = Apple Macintosh computer

The MacBook Wheel was an Onion spoof.

Apple isn't stubborn. HDCP is somewhat of the problem. Evidently to try to find away around it without stepping on anyone's toes.

Good to be here on my first post. Smells great here.

Apple TV supports HDCP, so that can't be the problem.

a MAC world from the beginning? to be picky... it was a unix world from the beginning... hehe

And actually, Microsoft (Bill Gates) was there from the beginning helping Apple with their computers and contributed ideas.

thaaaaaat doesn't make any sense... Microsoft was supporting bluray on Windows since like 2006-2007. why is HDCP an issue??? the issue is apple is pretty dang slow with it's software development. read my post earlier on Steve Jobs and how Apple operates their "innovations".

they've been working on their new ilife/iwork suite and iphones. Steve has been too busy to work on bluray support.

???? what do you mean? What's wrong with Vista? Do you own a vista machine? Maybe you just didn't bother downloading SP1?

My Vista machine (bought 1 month after launch), works and performs better than my 2 old XP machines, 2000, and 98 machines ever did! Oh, and also, It performs and does much more at half the cost of the iMac i use to have. I sold it after about a year and a half cuz it was junk.

P.S. I like the iphones, but i hate AT&T... FYI. I'm not a MAC hater, i just prefer PC's WAY more. hehe
