I hated "Cloverfield." Even though the alien thing was cool, the camera movements were horrid. The plot was not very revealing, and the characters were terrible.
WOW Dude, exactly what i was thinking, i dont have to add anything at all to your bit.. two thumbs UP .. !

Don't even bother with Quarantine, just watch [Rec]. Acting on both aside, Quarantine is just a shot for shot remake, but the bad thing is, the "shots" aren't as good as the original.

I don't think much needs to be said about Cloverfield either. It's a mediocre monster movie with no depth what-so-ever (for the monster). It attempts to have depth for the characters but the reality is that I just don't care about their Dawson's Creek, poorly written, problems. Likewise, for a film that strives to feel "real," the entire premise is completely unrealistic. Some guy is not gonna go charging into a city being devastated by a monster for some girl he's slept with once. I feel no connection or "love" from these characters. The only character I actually felt any connection to was the funny fat one who cracked jokes the whole time,
[Show spoiler]it was sad that he got eaten.
is any movie with a love story between 20somethings "Dawson's Creek"? I think that's a pretty unfair generalization. And considering they only set up the story for about 20 minutes before everything got going I don't see how it being poorly written (which I don't thnk it was) really ruins the movie, it's not even remotely the focus.

And... well I guess any given person would feel differently about what they'd go through for a loved one (he may have only slept with her once but their relationship is shown to be about more than that) but I'd like to think I'd have some courage even in the face of a disaster type situation to save a person I loved. I found it more interesting than the standard ESCAPE! ... which in reality would not take very long, you'd either make it out or you'd die. this at least provided a reason to keep them around the monster.

anyway, as expected you did have more to say, which gave me something actual worthwhile to respond to. far more helpful to someone wondering about the movie than just saying it sucked.

Cloverfield all the way! Better sound effects and better overall movie, IMO!

I don't think hate for Quarantine is justified because many people probably haven't even seen the original. The filming is vastly superior and it's almost like a completely different experience. The US remake was pretty bad in comparison.

Cloverfield deserves all the hate for being so over hyped and overrated.

which includes your complaints

i don't want to read subtitles, so i don't care how much better the original is. watching people running around speaking another language isn't scary to me

and cloverfield is one of the best monster movie's ever. not my fault people buy into hype

I didn't realize Quarantine was a remake. As far as remakes go I like Pulse way more.

I liked Cloverfield, I found it to be an entertaining experience.
Can't say as much for Quarantine. I fell asleep, woke up in the end and didnt feel the need to see what was in between.

i havent seen quarantine but i bought cloverfield the other day. i wish i could return it. wasnt worth the 20 i paid. i thought the acting was horrible, some of thier lines were bad, and some of the things they did was unbelieveable. but thats just my opinion. the pq and aq was pretty good though.

Quarantine = HATED IT!

Cloverfield = LOVED IT!

Btw, anyone else bothered that the marketing numbskulls basically RUINED the movie by using the ending (ie SPOILER) of Quarantine as the fricking boxart?

On that note...
[Show spoiler]that was "the man from boston" who mopped up the Scott and then apparently drags off Angela...right? If so, why was his hair so long?

But yes...that was lame to give us that upfront.
