The theatrical remake of Stephen King's IT is being talked about again, with True Detective director Cary Fukunaga talking about the potential remake:

Quote:
Are you also still hoping to do the two-part It movie?

FUKUNAGA: I am in the midst of rewriting the first script now. We’re not working on the second part yet. The first script is just about the kids. It’s more like Goonies meets a horror film.

As great as Tim Curry was as Pennywise the clown in the TV movie of It, one of the biggest failures of that was the really cheesy creature at the end.

FUKUNAGA: There will be no spider at the end of our movie. We’re definitely honoring the spirit of Stephen King, but the horror has to be modernized to make it relevant. That’s my job, right now, on this pass. I’m working on making the horror more about suspense than visualization of any creatures. I just don’t think that’s scary. What could be there, and the sounds and how it interacts with things, is scarier than actual monsters.
Lego Movie producer Dan Lin is a producer on IT, and he said he's hoping they make the movie after Fukunaga makes Beasts of the Nation, which starts filming next month.

Depending on who they cast as the kids this could be great. Still my favorite King novel.

Fukunaga's been solid with his projects so far. Based on his comments in the above-quoted interview, and how truly creepy he made some moments in his Jane Eyre adaptation, I think he can really hit this one out of the park. I hope the project comes to fruition and he sticks with it to the end (and the studio lets him do whatever the heck he wants).

I really hope this movie happens (something that I would have never said as a little kid because I was terrified of It).

This movie should take its time and get is right. I've always loved it (no pun intended) and it'd be well worth the wait to see this on the big screen.

Although I should say this movie used to scare the $h1t out of me as a kid lol

My favorite King novel.

I thought the original mini-series was terrible. Curry was too comical, not serious or creepy enough. Pennywise was not funny in any respect.

If they do make the movie, I hope they leave the too detailed pre-pubescent gang-bang scene out of it. Which is odd, because that was the only thing that actually kept them alive in the tunnels when they were kids.

Always made me wonder if King was doing more than drugs and booze when he wrote that bit.

Too bad Kubrick isn't around to take it and give the big FU to Stephen King by directing Doctor Sleep and It.

They should have Elle Fanning to play Beverly.
Doug Jones as Pennywise.

They could easily get all the kids from Super 8 and put them in this movie

I am going to go out on a limb and say the orgy scene will not be in the film.

Good, as that was the most horrific part of the book to me.

Lets face what Hollywood has become today. Studio execs will probably try and make it drastically different by either casting a woman as Pennywise or not even have him be in the movie.

Cary Fukunaga has signed on to direct Noble Assassin so that likely means he either won't be directing the remake of It or that the movie will be pushed back even further.

This is just like with the Pet Sematary remake. They keep getting pushed back until eventually none of the two will ever get made.

The most recent info I could find about Fukunaga being attached to Noble Assassin is from August of 2013. It would seem that that project has fallen through, unless new info has been released?

Deadline reported last week that a writer had been hired and that Fukunaga would direct:

Fukaunaga could be directing IT next and than Nobel Assassin after. All the article said was that he was directing but nothing about it being his next project.

Honestly, this is a remake I don't really mind, in that I don't really like the original film (I honestly have never found it scary, although that may be just be due to me not being in on the whole being afraid of clowns/dolls/puppets/dummies game; oddly enough, I am terrified of
[Show spoiler]spiders, and, really, all insects,
though), whereas I do really like the book. It's the book the King is most famous for (perhaps unfortunately), and I'd like to see it done justice.
