I agree that I think it's more than 20. A lot of it is word trickery. I do marketing for a company that sells both, and DirecTV stuff always says "potential up to100 HD Channels by End of Year!"

I think Dish Network is somewhere in the 40-50 channels range (at least on their advertising) but I think its including pay-per-view and premium channels.

Yeah I Just Looked At there Site They Do Offer Quite A Few Its Like 40 Channels. Reason Why I Said 20 Was I Was Thinking Of Getting Dish Network And They Told Me They Only Had Like 20 HD Channels And This Was Last Month

Also Dish Charges 20 Bucks For Their HD Service And DTV Only Charges 9.99

By the way I got a call from D-TV tonight. It was an automated message saying that I need the bbc-converters installed and the new channels were launching shortly.

I heard recently that a few new HD channels will be available on older equipment, like 3 or 4. I cant confirm this yet though, I'm referring to the older 3-lnb satellite h-10 receiver and Hd-Tivo hr10-250 units. We will see tomorrow

I also noticed the current D-TV promotion seems to end tomorrow. Coincidence?

You are right, they did mine for free and included the H-20 unit for free, just had to sign a new 2 year contract

I'm sure the other cable companies are doing similar plans.
Ain't competition great?
Except that Comcast only has bandwidth to add about 10 more HD channels, and then they will be maxed out unless they start removing channels or add an additional line trunk to your service.
