I am really glad that Netflix began charging the extra $1. Without it, I probably would have stayed with them and just kept *****ing constantly about the long waits. Thank you Netflix for giving me the last reason to leave!! As far as BB online goes ... wow they really got their s##t together in the past year. Wait times are always low and my BM store is getting about 5-8 copies of the hot new releases on Blu, so I take my returns there and no waits at all ... so thank you again Netflix for that $1 charge!!

The only thing I hate about Netflix is how they will intentionally skip over the top movies in my Q and send me ones from the middle or bottom. Its very frustrating, especially when the top movies in my Q are listed as 'available now'. Or, they will sometimes send me a television series out of order even though I clearly had them in my Q in order.

I'm pretty new, but I really signed up for the xbox streaming and the online instant viewing. I travel a bit, so it's nice to watch something entertaining just because I feel like it.

So far my service has been lightening fast, I mailed a movie on monday and I'll have one waiting for me today. I don't care about the new releases so much (I'll buy the ones I know I'll want) and only rent stuff I'm 'iffy' on.

I never got everything I wanted walking into a brick & mortar rental store (ESPECIALLY new releases) so I don't see the big deal. Waiting 2-3 months for a film after release, is a bit odd though...should be there before then. Still, if all that I had in my que was stuff that got released this week I wouldn't expect that I could 'trick' the system, I'd expect that I'd be without a movie since I've intentionally limited my options. It would be like living in the phillipines and only being willing to date blondes--there's not a big pool to choose from

I guess I should have been clearer in my previous post.
I have 200+ movies in my queue.
When my top five were unavailable, they then sent me my next available title - from WASHINGTON STATE. No, it wasn't a Blu Ray, it was a Barbie DVD for my daughter that hadn't been in my queue long. Six days later, it shows up. I don't think it is asking too much for the $1 premium I'm paying to equal halfway decent service.

Sorry, I know I seem to be ranting here, but it is difficult to communicate my frustration as a long time user of Netflix to new users who are currently receiving A+ service because Netflix wants to keep them long enough to treat them like crap with the rest of us. Why can't we all receive excellent service? Shouldn't we DEMAND that of a company that wants our money?

Sounds like the time has come to speak with your wallet and not your voice ... or fingers .... oh you get the idea

Join the revolution, just think for each customer they lose, that's profit from about 16 customers price increases that they just lost.

Ive had the issue with a disc coming from a longer distance than usual when its a odd disc or very old title (I watch some odd stuff sometimes). They always email me beforehand to let me know to expect a delay. I dont expect them to have mulitple copies of EVERY title available in EVERY location.

This method has worked for Incredible Hulk and Iron Man also.
Not necessarily -- I've done that quite often and timed it just right, only to STILL be stiffed the movie. It happened with Don't Mess With The Zohan -- had a movie shipping out both Monday and Tuesday, that one didn't ship either day, and it's been sitting at the top of my queue ever since with "long wait". I don't get it - it's not like the discs are THAT expensive -- if it's always "out" why the bleep don't they get MORE of them?!!! The blu-ray rentals on there are a joke - ALWAYS "long wait" for everything. DVDs you can get almost anything almost any time.

I've tried blockbuster twice before and both times it was even worse.....so I guess we have no choice but to stick with the crap Netflix.

The Friday method worked great for me this week. Got Step Brothers, Prince Caspian, and X-Files on Tuesday. Wanted was the one I was hoping for the most but oh well.

Default Its easy to switch

I think newer customers do get prefferential treatment. Its sad, but likely true. My advice is to switch. No matter which one you are on switch to the other. Its relatively painless and easy (except maybe for the guy with 200 movies in his queue) to give it a try. Then once you've been a customer for a year and start getting screwed, switch back.

I think another factor in each person's satisfaction may be where the warehouse is relative to your home. I live in the Chicago suburbs. The warehouse that ships to me is only 30 miles away. Every movie has made it to my house in one day (never takes 2). I suspect there may be advantages when in a large market such as the Chicago, too.

Also, I think BB has the upper hand becuase of your option to swap out movies at the nearby brick and mortar store. If you've got a BB store nearby, but are a NetFlix customer, you owe yourself to give it a try. I have been very happy since switching from Netflix to Blockbuster mainly becuase of this. Just got Fred Claus last night in one day. I've heard the movie is not that great, but the wife wanted it and its Xmas time, so what the heck. But demand for Xmas movies has to skyrocket in Decemeber, yet I still got it only a few days after I put it in my queue. Maybe only beucase I am still in the Honeymooon phase of my marriage with BB? Anyway, I am glad I switched for now at least....

Lastly, I actually prefer the UI of the BB website over NF. Its a shame that NF was first and now BB is already better (in my opinion), but what can you say? A very cool thing with the BB interface is if you do a swap at the store, the website updates in real time. And if you pick up a movie already in your queue when you do the swap, the website automatically removes it from your queue (if you want it to). Not huge, but a nice feature.

Blockbuster???? They will rape you in the end, plain and simple. NetFlix may not be perfect, but I can still remember all the time Blockbuster screwed me royally when they were the only game in town.

Sometimes I have movies it takes a while to get through Netflix, but my track record is 9 out of 10 new releases I have in my mailbox the Tuesday they are out.

Default I always used to hate Blockbuster, too

$5 for a movie, screwed me on late fees, blah blah blah. But for the hybrid of Online + Brick and Mortar, its pretty good so far. Give it a try. If you don't like it, switch back. Its EASY.

I have had Netflix since they started and other than the occassional bad disk I have had no problems. If anything, new release availability has improved since I switched to Blu-ray. This may change or not since I think it has something to do with the relative penetration of Blu-ray in your local areas. In mine it is still relatively low.

Awesome Data! I also was getting good service from Netflix for the past year. I just changed becuase of the brick and mortar swap option with Blockbuster. Interesting how things have improved for you over time-- for sure this is the way it should be! Your data disputes the notion that long time cutomers get screwed. Thanks again for the data!

I added it to my Q back in May and it has been on the top 5 of my Q forever now. Are they serious? What does it take to get these Blu-rays on the day they are released (they will ship my next film tomorrow)? Who gets these releases then since every new disk on Blu has some sort of a wait on it (short, long, very long)? Is anyone PISSED off as much as I am? I am loving the Mac-enabled Instant watching, but I just do not get the deal with new releases. Ps, its the netflix from phoenix, AZ.
the best way to get these releases quickly is to reduce your plan. Go down to 2-out-at-a-time and those titles will magically free up.

Well, Netflix needs to change their name to Netfix if they're seriously screwing over long-time customers.

I like that "Netfix"...

Seems like a Netflix bashing thread... If you've noticed, their "new release" browsing function really needs improvement. Or did they do that intentionally so people don't know what's new?
