Also when it comes to Michaels and Aaron Brothers Framing stores, check your Sunday newspaper ads section, they often have coupons which may stack with sale prices too.

So what theatrical posters (aside from Disney) would people consider rare over the past 10 yrs?

When you say "Disney" do you mean all Disney including the Marvel posters under Disney's ownership? To name just a few, I would say the ones that are still sought after, fairly rare, and collectible would be:

Any of the Dark Knight posters and I would say Dark Knight Rises, lump Batman Begins in as well since I believe that was out in 2005. Some of the rarest posters for that trilogy would be the international advance style for Batman Begins, the 2009 re-release style for Dark Knight, and the IMAX exclusive style for Dark Knight Rises. The Heath Ledger Joker advance teaser for The Dark Knight is always in demand, great poster and the only domestic style that featured him on it. Watchmen still has a following, but from just a rarity standpoint for Watchmen certainly the IMAX exclusive style poster for that film.

I would also say the double-sided Blade Runner: Final Cut poster from 2007, V for Vendetta advance and final, honestly there are a many others that could fit in this category when it comes to newer titles over the last ten years.

Not movie posters per say, but I live in Austin and went to the Mondo Gallery Marvel opening last night and dropped $200 on posters. Got ones of Thor, Loki, Daredevil, and a sweet holographic Asgard one. I have no self control.

You can see all the posters here http://www.slashfilm.com/marvel-mondo-gallery/ I know Mondo is going to sell the leftovers online early next year.

Yeah I was covering everything under the Disney umbrella as rare lol.

I figured Dark Knight which is why still to this day I'm annoyed at the kid who used to work at my local theater, theater manager had set a Dark Knight poster aside for me (regular with burning symbol in building) wrote my name on it and right before I got there to pick it up saw several teens crowding around this kid. He had told all his friends to come to theater and he'd give them all posters before he quit. Watched a bunch of good ones go out the door before manager showed up to work to stop him as he was giving out posters of movies not even out yet.

Anyways, I was just kind of asking out of curiosity for what I had obtained for when I supervised my theater. All I'm keeping of course but always good to know.

My highlights would be:

[Show spoiler]Fast & Furious (4th movie)
Star Trek (2009)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
WatchMen (folded poster)
Quantum of Solace
X-Men Origins Wolverine
Harry Potter Half Blood Prince
AdventuThunderIron Man
Taken
Tropic Thunder
Think I ended up in total 75 posters which I've added to now from DMR and a couple conventions I went to

It's been awhile since I've posted in this thread, but I miss my movie theater days.

Regarding 'rare' posters, I think it's difficult to say. I stopped working at a theater in about 2003, so the last 12 years I have no real perspective. Prior to that, though, the posters for the Disney animated movies would be both rare and sought after.

Disney generally didn't send too many copies of posters to theaters. For the chain I worked out, Paramount would send 5 of pretty much everything (except Star Trek) and Disney would send 2, maybe 3.

The theater I worked at when the Star Wars special editions came out got a big promo box including 6 t-shirts with the first teaser poster ("three reasons movie theaters are built" version of the poster---which there were three different versions of that...gold/silver/bronze colorings on the back side)

Sometimes the production company would send goodies with the actual film cans. I received t-shirts for "The Birdcage" and "What dreams may come" because I was the projectionist who put those movies together that Thursday night.

The poster I view as the most 'rare' though is the 'art deco' version of The Rocketeer.

A friend gave it to me!

So I won this poster on a contest its from the movie Goosebumps and its autographed by all the cast of the movie. It's double side and the measures are 27"x40". It looks so cool and I love the colors. I was thinking on selling it. Does someone know a good place to sell it? I think it's very rare. I was checking eBay and they don't have one like this, all the autographed ones are smaller.

I envy you. I loved going there when I lived in Austin. I dropped that much at the Batman 75th Anniversary gallery.

Actually Avatar posters were very difficult to come by for dealers to get, 20 Century Fox titles are hard to get but when Avatar was out, there was that mass hysteria going on because the movie was making so much money and people were talking about it so yes those would be added to that list of harder posters to come by when it comes to titles over the last 10 years. I personally felt Avatar looked great, but fell flat in the story department, it was Dances with Wolves in space and I loved Dances with Wolves, but Avatar just didn't do it for me, but will admit I bought it on Blu-ray when it came out. When I met James Cameron I had him sign some teasers, he was in a great mood and only two other fans were there so I lucked out as he has been known to be a tough signer at times.

For Watchmen, make sure you check the wording at the bottom, so many sellers do not explain the different of the domestic vs. international styles. If just the year is listed, its the international version. The first style released was the advance style "A" with Rorschach standing in the street with his back towards you. That also was the international advance style "A", Domestically the US then saw a 2nd advance released called the advance style "B" which was the image of the Comedian being tossed from the window, and did not appear on an international style. The final style was then released of the cast, same poster for both domestic and international market, wording at the bottom slightly different.

The rarest of them all is the IMAX exclusive style featuring a close up of the cast faces, half-face shots actually which looks like this:
http://www.impawards.com/2009/watchmen_ver18.html

That website is good, but they post images that aren't posters so it can confuse collectors. If you look they have a ton of images for Watchmen but most were never actual posters. One of these days I need to sell my cast autographed final Watchmen styles, but I know they won't be affordable for most.

Yes what you have would be considered rare but it would cater only to Goosebumps fans, unsure how many are there. eBay would probably be your best bet but if you do that, explain the history of it meaning how you got it, and if you have any of the material sent with the poster to you such as a letter from the studio or company who sent it to you congratulating you on winning it, etc. Autographed items are quite common on eBay and much of it isn't legit so buyer can sometimes be skeptical when it comes to signed items so the more information on its history and other materials you can include, the better.

Studios often have one-sheet movie posters signed by the cast and that is generally done at the premiere for a film because that is one of the only times when all of the cast and director are there in one place. So they will have some signed for various charities to auction off, contest giveaways etc so signed posters DO exist outside of the ones fans get signed by random celebrities.

Bond/Daniel Craig originals can be sought after as James Bond has a huge following. The advance for Casino Royale is probably one of the rarest of those films but also the final style for Skyfall too. The earlier Harry Potter posters are very popular, the rarest when it comes to one sheets (not including the lenticular poster for one of the films) would be the final style for the first film with the painted cast image by artist Drew Struzan.

Regarding your Dark Knight story, sounds like that employee simply didn't care, probably would have been fired it he wasn't quitting. That style you mentioned was the final style for DK, the one featuring the big burning bat symbol in the side of the building.

I spoke with the manager of a movie theater a couple months back and got to talking to him about posters, etc. My boys were having an Inside Out themed birthday party, and he said he couldn't give me any Disney posters because of how strict Disney is, but he did give me a massive...massive Minions poster. It's ginormous and I have no clue what to do with it now, where to put it, etc. Framing doesn't seem to be much of an option for this size picture. I hate for the thing to sit in the tube he put it in because it's a really cool poster, but I just don't know what to do with it.

Most likely a bus shelter should be 5x8 feet. Yea Disney will as for their posters back from the theater.

These are gorgeous, and thin in profile. I might have to scoop one for my DMR Force Awakens, if one of the two arrives in mountable shape.

The Star Wars poster is still available through DMR, I'm leaning towards it being single-sided. No way they would have this many double sided posters. Here's hoping I'm wrong.
