I would phrase it as "sensitivity" to scratches rather than "fragility" because if a disc is made and treated right with no scratches, it should play fine. I can speak from some experience playing rental BDs that even a small concentric scratch will typically lock up, cause to skip, or cause brief macro blocking when the player hits that spot. Sadly a lock up is most common for me, and I've tried some of these on multiple brands of BD players.

The bottomline is I've gotten a good sense what a bad scratch looks like on a BD and I try to inspect used BDs or 4Ks very carefully with a reflected light source before buying them. If I see even a slight concentric scratch I won't buy it. I will accept light radial scratches.

The part that gets me is I've never scratched a disc that has passed through my hands, yet I find so many heavily rented BDs are loaded with large concentric scratches. I don't know how that can happen unless people are juggling their BD player while the BD is playing.

Strat was referring to my disc freezing up around 53ish minutes when the chapter changed. There were no scratches on the disc, so that wasn't the problem. And usually if I ever have a chapter change freezing up it only occurs well after a 2 hour mark. I got a replacement and it plays fine.

Also, the problem isn't people scratching them. Discs are coming pre-scratched from the Mexico plant left and right. Some aren't so bad, it's a little nick here and there mostly around the outer edge and doesn't mess with playback. Then sometimes it looks like they put a rock between two discs and spun the top one around real fast. Or looks like a great winged beast with massive talons handed it to a sabretooth tiger during packaging. This is why I want to support Paramount as much as possible, beyond their willingness to crank out so much catalog titles, seeing "disc made in Germany" makes my soul happy.

Here's something odd. Target split my order and shipped them separately but they both have the same FedEx tracking number and only one package arrived. Got a replacement no problem, but I wonder if that second package is lost or was never actually shipped. Apparently the same tracking number for both packages is something that does happen on occasion when someone makes a mistake.

Employees in the shipping departments sometimes will do that to save on the company on shipping costs (it doesn't affect them personally but the company itself so unsure if they would do that for that reason) but they also do it to save time rather than processing another order that is about the same, they just print the same label again for a different package for the same customer.

The second package will probably arrive eventually. Target has been having a big issue with customer's tracking numbers showing packages delivered in various states and not to the receiver at all, but then it eventually gets corrected and delivered as it should be. This was a really big problem late last year for baseball cards, and then I read it was affect media orders. Unsure if it has all been corrected but it was quite frustrating to say the least.
