I thoroughly enjoy the neighborhood walking scenes in the autumn, leaves blowing with that wonderful theme music and also the car scenes throughout the neighborhood with Michael Myers driving, absolutely A-1! Michael seems to be
[Show spoiler]going after promiscuous couples alot.
Great cast with as Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis, a young Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode & the great director/music by John Carpenter.

10/10 - Child's Play

Fantastic action from start to finish! Love the cast with Chucky as "Good Guy Doll", Brad Dourif as Charles Lee Ray, Catherine Hicks as Karen Barclay, Chris Sarandon as Mike Norris, Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay. I wish they would have
[Show spoiler]kept Dinah Manoff as "Aunt Maggie" a little bit longer.
Also enjoy the time period this takes place in.

Army Of Darkness (Re-watch)

Just like it's sequel. It's a screwball comedy with over the top stuff. But it works on what it's trying to do.

Gimme some sugar, baby.

*First Time Viewing (Netflix)

1/2

- This was an odd one. It is like the Phantom of the Paradise meets Wet Hot American Summer without as much comedy. Almost like a straight comedy about a theater camp with a slasher element thrown in. Has a short appearance by Minnie Driver and a co-starring role for Meat Loaf Aday. I enoyed it, but much more a musical than a horror film. But oddly very realistic gore when called for.

aka Turistas

*First Time Viewing

- Pretty much Hostel in Brazil with less humor. I like the leads in this one some of whom of gone on the bigger careers, and the effects are pretty good, but there is just not a lot to this one. An okay time killer.

*First TIme Viewing

- This one surprised me in how much I liked it. Lance Henriksen can make any movie at least palatable. And this one had a southern gothic type of atmosphere complete with steam rolling through the swamps. Couple that with a tale of revenge, and you have a pretty good movie.

[Show spoiler]9/24 - Strip Nude for Your Killer -
[Show spoiler]-Good Atmosphere, keeps the tension up for about 45 mins, then starts to drag a bit. A LOT of random nudity. Overall, I liked it, about middle of the road giallo. stars Edwige Fenech, so that makes if alright in my book.

9/22 - Night of the Creeps -
[Show spoiler]Love this one. Not really scary, but campy and funny. Plus Tom Atkins in one of my favorite roles.

9/25 - Lost After Dark (3 1/2) - first time viewing.
[Show spoiler]Pretty good "period" slasher. Set in the 80's. Pretty good character development before the slashing starts. Lots of moody shots of the old house. Enjoyable example of a well done slasher.

9/26 - Hardware - First time watching.
[Show spoiler]Loved the music. Like Dylan McDermott and the dystopian setting adds to the atmosphere.

9/26 - The Battery - First time watching.
[Show spoiler]Very very good. A zombie film without that many zombie, but more of 2 man road trip movie meets a zombie movie. Unique and compelling.

9/27 - Eaten Alive (2 1/2) - First time watching.
[Show spoiler]Very very odd film. The whole thing is sort of a sleazy slice of life. I can say I have never seen anything really like it. There is very little lead up, and almost no explanation of why the killer is killing. And if you want to understand anything that the killer says, turn on the subtitles. Hooper fans should check it out. Oh, I almost forgot, I think this is Robert Englund's feature film debut. Anyone that has seen that Kill Bill movies will see the homage to this film by Tarantino.

9/28

Maniac (remake) -
[Show spoiler]- Really liked this one. Shot almost totally in 1st person POV. Gory, with very psychologically stunted main character. Elijah Wood does a great job.

Night of the Scarecrow (1995) -
[Show spoiler]- Not bad at all. Good slasher flick with an early appearance by John Hawkes. The lead actress in this is good, not sure why she didn't do more.

9/29 - Hatchet -

[Show spoiler]-had seen it before, but it has been a while. I really enjoyed it, maybe more than my rating suggests. As serious horror film, I stand by my 3 of 5, but for my enjoyment of it as almost a parody of 80's horror with a few good scares and just as many laughs, I give it 4 of 5.
It also features "Freddy" from Mad Man as a sleazy adult film "producer."

9/30 - Hatchet II / Hatchet III - / 1/2

[Show spoiler]I liked both of these to conclude the trilogy although the ending of III was bt of a letdown. Caroline Williams of Texas Chainsaw Massacre II plays a supporting role, so it was good to see her back. The Second installment was definitely stronger.

While I like Danielle Harris, I much much preferred the original actress that was in the first film, Tamara Feldman. She is much taller and more physical which is necessary since she is being chased by a killer. Also being from the south, most accents attempted on film almost without fail are either not accurate or fall into the Kevin Spacey from a Time to Kill old delta accent that just doesn't exist anymore in anyone under 70 years old. I say that to say that I thought Tamara Feldman did a very good accent. All in all, I thought she fit the part better.

Though, once you accept the actress change, everyone does a good job, especially Tony Todd.

10/1-

[Show spoiler] - Very good early 80's slasher with a dark sense of humor. Though the Canadian accents do get to be a bit much.

10/2

[Show spoiler]- 1st time watching. I enjoyed it enough, but I was expecting more. Not very scary. I still have a hard time understanding why Craig Scheffer never made it bigger. He is a good enough actor, and there he had some good roles. Back on topic, I am glad to finally see this and that I was not one of the fans waiting for this for 20+ years.

- 1st time watching.
[Show spoiler]I really liked this one. Funny and macabre. Gore generally doesn't bother me, but the scene with the soup at the first of the movie was gross.

10/3

1/2
[Show spoiler]- I have seen this before, but it was only bits and pieces.
I am still working my way through the Price-Corman-Poe films. I have both of the Price sets from Shout plus some of the Arrow standalone releases. Pretty much if Price is in it, I will watch it, and The Masque of the Red Death has been one of my favorite Poe stories. Very good for this sort of film.

*First Time Viewing

1/2

[Show spoiler]Loved this one. Price was perfect, and a wax museum with its lifelike figures is creepy to begin with. The atmosphere and mood were great.

I just tried to start House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Reject's double feature, but my Lionsgate House of 1000 Corpses disc has gone bad. I had checked it a few months ago to be sure, along with most of the other older LG titles. It worked then, but it does not now. It will try to load the menu, but will freeze and I even had half of the screen go purple with digital pixilation. Oh well, I just picked up the 88 Films release of Castle Freak, so I think I will watch that instead.

10/3 (cont.)

*First Time Viewing

1/2
[Show spoiler]
-A great atmosphere of the Italian castle with a secret, plus Jefferey Combs and Barbara Crampton. Nothing not to like here. I may rate it higher on a second viewing.

*First Time Viewing

1/2

[Show spoiler]-The theme or score really made the movie for me. While the actual zombies looked a bit fake, some of the gore was still very visceral. I liked it a lot. It just takes a little while to get where it is going.

10/4

Creep (2015)

*First Time Viewing

[Show spoiler]Wow. This one was very good. I did not know what to expect with Mark Duplass in the role of the "Creep," but he was quite unsettling.

*First Time Viewing

1/2

[Show spoiler]-This was more of a mystery than an out and out horror movie. But I always like Albert Finney.

*First Time Viewing

1/2

[Show spoiler]- I will have to rewatch. There is just too much to pick up on during one viewing
.

10/5

*First Time Viewing

I really wish the dub was better. Some of it is really awful. Also, there is not reason for the guy's face to be deformed, nor is any reason given that I recall.. Just because. I was prepared to give it a lower rating until the "twist" even though I predicted it. Some good kills even though some of it looks very fake. Not bad, but not my favorite Franco either.

10/5

1/2

[Show spoiler]I don't think I have seen this one since I was 15 or so after it came out. Gotta love some throwback 90's horror. I guess part of the Scream horror comedy phase. Not scary, but some good effects and actually pretty funny. Plus a cameo from Fred Willard. I think I picked this up during the Image BOGO maybe back in February, and would have definitely taken longer to watch it. But this thread is a good motivator.

10/6

*First Time Viewing

1/2

[Show spoiler]- I saw a poster above watched this, so I thought I would check it out as well. I really enjoyed this one. I've always liked Treat Williams, and Piscopo was pretty funny as well. The twist on the zombie premise was interesting. A great cameo by
[Show spoiler]Vincent Price
. For a Horror Comedy, this really was funny.

[Show spoiler]
Good Creature feature. I just finished up the Strain so more Kevin Durand is appreciated. Maybe he can start getting some lead work. Also glad to see Bianca Kajlich and Nick Damici getting more roles as well.

10/8

*First Time Viewing

[Show spoiler]This was great. I don't want to give anything away, but this is a very unique movie, though it bears some similarity to Curtis Harrington's Night Tide. Hopefully a breakout for both of the lead actors. They both do great work here.

30. The Strangeness (1985) (Blu Ray) 1/2

Cheerleader Camp (1988) Late 80's black Comedy/Slasher starring Betsy Russell, Leif Garrett, Lucinda Dickey and porn star Teri Weigel. It has the three B's - Babes, Boobs and Blood! While it wont win any awards, ever, it's still fun and entertaining.

The Sentinel (1977) 1/2 Saw this a few times as a kid in the VHS rental days and always had a soft spot for poor Cristina Raines. For me, much like Messiah of Evil (1973), you notice new things and the story becomes a bit more clear with each consecutive viewing. Like Messiah it has some fantastic imagery as well as some disturbing imagery. The film is chock full 'o stars and I shit you not, at the 7 minute mark if you look carefully in the back ground you can see Richard Dreyfuss chatting up some bird. Great movie, genuinely creepy. Soooo happy to finally own this one again after all these years. The cat in the birthday hat is just too much "Black and White Cat, Black and White Cake." They don't make em like this anymore

The Strangeness (1985) 1/2 This one to me is like The Boogens (1981) and Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959) combined. It is one of those no budget flicks with all amateur actors and crew but it still packs an entertaining punch IMO. The actors actually do pretty good in this one. There are some stop motion effects that are right on par with 1985 as well as some decent gore. The end seemed a little bit HG Wells to me but overall a very entertaining picture. Very happy with Code Red's release.

10/9 - *Night of the Demons (1988) -

I'm going to be honest, I thought this was going to be better than it was. I went in with high expectations and those expectations weren't met. But I still enjoyed it, it wasn't bad by any means. The acting and dialogue were incredibly cheesy and hokey and that added to the charm. The characters were all likable and interesting; Linnea Quigley and Cathy Podewell were smoking hot. The special effects and makeup was all good as well. It was good, I liked it.

10/10 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) -
[Show spoiler]

The Texas Chainsaw remake is a better film than the original. There, I said it. And I'll stand by it. Leatherface is better in the remake, the family is better, the characters are better, the hitchhiker is better, there not being a Franklin made it better, hell even the name Thomas Hewitt is better than the Sawyer name and whatever first names they gave him across the original series. Even if you don't agree, and I suspect you don't, It's still a great horror film.

10/10 - Frankenstein (1931) -
[Show spoiler]

The original classic. A solid film.

10/10 - Child's Play 2 (1990) -
[Show spoiler]

The best film of the original three. The climax in the toy factory is great and is one of the best moments in the entire series.

10/10 - *Count Yorga, Vampire (1970) -
[Show spoiler]

To be honest I paid close attention to the first 15 minutes and those bored me so much that I spent the rest of the film messing around on my phone. I know, I know, I suck. So I'm open to rewatching this film and I suspect I will at some point, but as for right now I think it's pretty bad.

10/10 - *Psycho II (1983) -
[Show spoiler]

For years I dismissed the Psycho sequels as unnecessary and pointless and I had zero interest in seeing them. The fact that I love the original made that belief even stronger. But I saw the original on the big screen last month and I decided to finally see these for my marathon this year. And boy, was I surprised. I thought Psycho II was great, it didn't feel like a cheap cash in. It was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. Anthony Perkins knocks it out of the park once again as Norman. He's so damn likable that even though he's a psycho murderer he still makes a perfect protagonist since you're cheering for him the entire film. The supporting cast was great too; Mary was really likable and she made a great pair with Norman. And I absolutely loved that they brought back Lila and what they did with her character. I don't even mind the revelation about Mrs. Bates, though the information we learned in next film makes it easier to swallow. I'm just so glad I decided to see these films.

10/10 - *Psycho III (1986) -
[Show spoiler]

Not as good as II but still pretty good in its own right. It's closer to the original in that Norman starts this film crazy, and that definitely makes it stand out from the second. It's weird saying this about a Psycho film, but I thought the kills in this one were pretty good. And the ending? It was the perfect way to end this trilogy of films, right down to the look Norman gives the camera as he's being taken away.

10/10 - *Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990) -
[Show spoiler]

Okay so this film doesn't retcon the events of II and III, but it does ignore a lot of them so it's basically a retcon and I despise retcons. That's my first problem with it. What about Mrs. Spool? The first film said that Norma's boyfriend convinced her to build the motel but in this they've always owned it? Norman's father was killed by Mrs. Spool but he died of bee stings in this one? He's married? And most importantly, how the **** did Norman get out of the asylum AGAIN? There's no way in hell they would ever let him out after the events of III. It's just absurd.

My second problem is that the kid who they got to play teenage Norman was just wrong for the part. He didn't have that awkwardness that makes Anthony Perkins' portrayal so good. My final problem is the entire ending. The first three films work so well in my opinion because Norman is a very sympathetic character. Well not here, here he's chasing his innocent wife around with a knife like a total jerkoff. Even when Norman goes crazy in the first three films he never lost his sympathetic streak. Here he was a dick and totally unlike himself.

I liked seeing the stuff between Norman and Norma, I wish they did more of that. The incest/sexual confusion stuff was on point. And I liked the scene where he kills the older woman, from a psychology standpoint I think it fits right in. The first kill was unnecessary though, I feel like it was only there to check the gratuitous nudity box. I don't hate this sequel but I'm not a huge fan of it either. I'll just stick with the first three.

11. The Exorcist

What can I say, a classic! Now, it's my first viewing of the sequels...

12. The Exorcist II: The Heretic

From a great movie to a bad one. Got tired of the damn flashing strobe light. And what's up with making Linda Blair look all...

13. The Exorcist III: The Legion

A nice turn around from the second. And hey, Brad Dourif!

14. Exorcist: The Beginning

Very good prequel. Enjoyed this one. But...

15. Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist

Feels like a TV movie. Cheap effects. And what was with this experiment with filming two prequel movies at once with the same lead???

*Denotes first time viewings

10/10: Oh what the hell, another round of 50's camp!

*The Incredible Shrinking Man(1955) Six months after a man encounters a radioactive mist during his vacation, he begins to shrink in physical size to the point where household items become traps of doom. This one was a lot of fun! it was suspenseful and thrilling watching the main character shrink in size and trying to survive. I thought the ending was just perfect.

*The Monolith Monsters(1956) A meteorite from space is literally petrifying people to death! It was an okay flick.

*The Mole People(1957) I was slightly underwhelmed by this flick. A group of archaeologists undercover a race of ancient albino humans living beneath underground where they hold the mole people as slaves. The mole creatures were cool looking, but that was really it for me.

*Tarantula(1957) An experiment involving a growth formula included a tarantula, which unfortunately, escapes and begins to terrorize an Arizona city.

Wyrmwood (First Time Viewing)

It's a different kind of Zombie movie I'll say that. Though most of the time you don't know what the hell is going on in the movie.
[Show spoiler]Like the plot with the weird doctor

[Show spoiler]Though I thought the sister controlling the zombies was a interesting aspect.
Plus I mean how hot is she?

The problem The Texas Chain Saw Massacre faced upon initial release when brought to the UK censors, wasn't that the violence was to extreme, it was the sever lack of it. They saw the film had an intensity and level of horror to it that couldn't be toned down, with the only real on-screen violence being a few gashes on hands and arms. All other gruesome moments are hidden in shadows or left to be uncovered in aftermaths. So the film was out and out banned for several years. But now available uncut, it's more an example of the changing attitudes than the films age as it still maintains it's level of intensity and horror today (which, if you're wondering, is really bloody intense) that no amount of on-screen bloodsplatter could replicate.
