Fight Club had MASSIVE cult following among us, teens of late 90s. It's one of the few films that defined that era for us, along with The Matrix. In my area, at least.

I remember not really paying it much attention when it came out, i'm not sure why exactly, perhaps it was the sci fi element that put me off as i was a huge horror movie fiend at the time. I skipped it in the cinema and didn't really know a lot about it. A friend of mine gave me the VHS for my birthday and i thanked her and left it on the shelf for another month or two before i gave it a shot.
Straight after watching it 2 times in a row i ran around to thank them properly because it was the first movie in a long time that actually blew me away. I loved it. Not sure if i still have the tape but i will be getting the 4k release despite not having a 4k TV or player. The blu ray (which i never bought) will do me until i eventually upgrade. |

I always forget how expensive ticket prices are around the country.
About a year ago a local theater was completely renovated with new projectors and speakers and sofa chairs and reserved seating, and they charge $5.75 per ticket. Nearly all of their profit comes from concessions. A ticket there with a drink and snacks is still cheaper than a ticket alone in most states. |

The more I go back in time and think about this I remember the stated conclusion from most people around the time I was starting college: "It wasn't that good/as good the second time I watched it". That was the common perception at the time, circa 2000.

I appreciated it a lot more the second time. The first time, I kept waiting for it to excite me and it just didn't. The second time, I was paying more conscious attention to the story construction.

funny how not liking a popular film gets this kind of reaction... yet I constantly see posts ripping flicks like TITANIC, FORREST GUMP, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, E.T., etc etc. (which I think are great) I've seen THE MATRIX several times since my oriignal viewing and I did like it better (hence my comment about it being "good") but I will never think of it as a great movie... and the sequels were even worse. Just not my cup of tea I guess. I also have never been impressed with The Lord Of The Rings films or Pulp Fiction. (other "untouchable" films on this forum ![]() |
