There's also Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan - both already looked incredible on blu. I'm praying The Matrix looks the best it possibly can, but with movies like listed above - yeah, good luck beating them. Not to mention, WB doesn't strike me as a competent encoder.

So far, out of upcoming releases, only Grease has hints of being DNR'ed shit. I hope it's not true.

From a potential upgrade perspective the Matrix should be a bigger upgrade than the lot since Gladiator and Braveheart already look great. SPR looks good but the colour temperature is off.

These are *not* restorations.

They are new 4K transfers with an HDR pass.

Restoration basically means that a lot of work has to be done just to make something look presentable. Ben-Hur was a film that actually needed a rather thorough restoration before making its way to Blu-ray, and the end result is spectacular. The Matrix requires nothing of the sort. The terminology that’s often used on this forum is used interchangeably when it shouldn’t be.

This is correct.

Should we just call them 4K Catalog releases?

Let's hope The Matrix is the best Catalog release this year!

If the first one doesn't sell well enough then we most likely won't get the whole set on 4K anyway.

I agree. The Matrix did for film in 1999 what Star Wars did for film in 1977. It made more folks believe in the magic of cinema again.

I know a lot of people share your appreciation.... I fell asleep seeing it at the theater (it was late...) I don't understand the love for these movies... none of them are any better than being good at best for me.....

A suggestion:

Rewatch it when you're not sleepy, and try to put yourself into the pre-social media/pre YouTube headspace, and then perhaps you'll appreciate it more.

Perhaps.

Come now, I love the Matrix, but I wouldn't go that far. The first Jurassic Park was much more of a landmark and I wouldn't compare it with Star Wars.

I never understood the love for the first movie and only found it average at best but I thought Reloaded was absolutely fantastic. Revolutions was a depressing bore though.

With all the bickering in this thread already I feel like Warner cannot win this one. No matter what kind of color timing will be present on the UHD there will be whining, I guarantee it.
