No version with that blue color scheme is the "definitive version." You can argue the Warner isn't either if you like, but neither are the German or UK ones.

Just watched Twilight Time's release of "Hound Of The Baskervilles".
The gradations from light to dark are far more representative of Fisher's work at Hammer.

wow i thought that arguing about what is the definitive version of any given film was a requirement to post on this board

Heh, I rarely think anything is definitive if it has an issue. I guess it's all subjective though. I consider most UHD releases to be definitive, which is nice. Makes me feel like I might finally never buy them again.

that is scratch on the Japanese print.
I would agree he is not crying but it's certainly not a mark on the print.
There clearly is a tear in his eye which is why Anolis went to the trouble of adding it. But I would guess being burnt to death by the rays of the sun could give similar feelings to other things that may make your eyes water.

never have to buy it again good one. like you won't have to buy that 8K version when it comes out. i keep telling myself that but still managed to buy Godzilla (1954/56) 6 times over the last 20 years. surely the Criterion Blu-Ray is the "definitive" version right....... right.....

this is the 4th time i've bought HOD.

That's not accurate. Shout used Fox's US interpositive to create a 4K scan, not a release print.

Either way it should be more accurate than the old one, is the point.

It's a shame there's no official soundtrack for Horror of Dracula. Not even a re-recording, as far as I know. I love James Bernard's work for Hammer. I believe I read once that Hammer suffered a fire at some point that resulted in the loss of a lot of score masters from the '50s, including this one and (I think) The Curse of Frankenstein as well. I believe The Mummy survived, though, and there is a soundtrack for it.

There is a new re-recording made last year in Prague of both 'The Curse of Frankenstein' and 'Dracula/Horror of Dracula' which will be released on CD later this year by Tadlow Music. Looking forward to hearing James Bernard's fantastic music in modern sound.

This.

Tadlow's re-recordings are too notch. This has been in the works for some time, and promises to be a spectacular CD release.

It's definitely a vertical scratch on the print. It's very obvious when viewing the unrestored, raw footage on the UK Blu-ray.

Yes there will be CD released in 2019 of both films

Release got delayed due an illness at tallow music back in 2018 but he recovering well.

James from tallow music is an amazing guy and a gentleman I used to deal with directly back in the 90's when he was with silva screen records.

You can expect brilliant recordings of Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein
The City of Prague Orchestra does fantastic recordings

Oh, wow! That's awesome to hear. I had no idea. I used to be in the loop on that kind of news when I was a regular at Film Score Monthly but I left that forum years ago. So thanks for the heads up.

No mono on Halloween and he hated how Evil Dead used some of Raimi's revisions but not all. I care about the former, not the latter. Doubt I'd re-buy either.

The lack of preservation of the original mono on the Halloween UHD is a disgrace, especially since the film is a part of the National Film Registry.

Didn't someone say that the Evil Dead audio is pitched?

I think some people said it has a slightly different pitch, yeah, now that you reminded me of it. Would have to read the thread to be sure.

Slightly off topic... was there a German standard release for THE BRIDES OF DRACULA? I didn't know it had correct OAR.
