More decorating of the (so damn close to finished) home cinema room.

That'll do nicely!

Well, I'll be damned - I fought off apathy and exhaustion to get a couple of frames up on the wall today!

What do you all recommend for affordable frames for original 27 x 40 posters? I haven’t needed one for years and no longer know what’s out there.

It depends on how much you want to spend and what you are framing. If its a reprinted poster don't go with a fancy frame, a simple snap together frame or ready made frame that you can find at Target or Walmart would be fine. If it is a valuable original poster, you can go with a professional framer and if so, make sure the framer does not dry mount the poster, you will want it loose between the backing of the frame and the glass so if need be, you can remove, and roll up. Dry mounting is a permanent process that will devalue the poster as it alters the original state of the poster. If you go that route make sure the framer uses an acid-free backing, and then consider UV-glass or UV-plexiglass if you have sunlight coming in that room.

You can also go with a ready made frame such as what Aaron Brothers' Framing carries, or Michaels Arts and Crafts as both have coupons sometimes in Sunday papers but with the pandemic unsure if both retailers are still around. There are also frames you can buy online, but again if the poster is of a collectible value either monetary or sentimental at the very least get a professional framer opinion on price. Most ready made frames have cardboard as a backing, if possible looking ones that have acid-free backing board or see if you can purchase just that from a framer if you go with a cheaper frame that fits the poster size.

I have some originals that I’m ready to frame. I ordered several frames from Hollywood Poster Frames years ago and they’re solid, but were pricey. I’ve avoided Michaels and the like because they seem kinda crappy, I thought there might be a good place people were getting frames from these days.

If they are newer onesheets you can use micheals etc. they wont harm the back. older big money I use hollywoodposter frames. with no glare UV and acid free backing.the posters I just posted are 30 ft from 2x 6x6 picture windows and no fading after a few years

Latest addition to the posters for my (still in sodding progress!) home cinema room.

A ridiculously high-resolution behind the scene photo from Superman The Movie had the wire-rigging removed, stage curtains take out, along with a visible stage-hand.

Just received it back from a professional printer, and duly put it in a frame. It's really hard to take a decent picture of, but I am very happy with the results.

Am really looking forward to having Chris Reeve and Margot Kidder hovering above the TV...

The cinema room is slowly progressing to where it should be.

I've got this poster, nicely framed. I especially like the slight golden touch, but regret that I'm no longer able to order from this same company since they no longer ship to outside the USA.

I recently worked at a theater which sadly closed down due to COVID. I have a few posters laying around like “A Star is Born” and “Blockers,” “Knives Out,” “Yesterday.” If anyone is interested, shoot me a message. Just be patient with me and my getting back to you.
