I'm honestly over that after seeing the documentary. It would've been way too "out there".

Speaking of that documentary, they better NOT let Nicolas Winding Refn direct a new Dune franchise

It can't be done in one movie, although I do realise that we'll never, in any case, see the full seven books on film

Which book do you consider the seventh? One of those by Herbert's son? I was under the impression there was just the main six before his son took over?

Dune
Dune Messiah
Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune
Heretics of Dune
Chapterhouse Dune

Maybe his son's Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune were once considered one book? I just thought it was seven.

Nevermind though. My point was that I wanted the original series, finished by Brian Herbert, to be filmed, but that's never going to happen, of course. I just really loved the storyline started by Frank in Heretics of Dune (The return from the Scattering stuff).

Just picked up a very cheap copy of Heretics (with original dust jacket) and am going to start reading it this weekend

Another title I'd love to see Shout Factory do a collector's edition of.

If they used the same transfer or better as the DE disc for both the theatrical and extended cuts and included all of the 2006 DVD extras I'd be all over it. It would be nice to see some new interviews with MacLachlan, Stewart, Von Sydow, and Prochnow.

I have had the original six books on paperback for about 20 years and all have the original artwork with the exception of the first book, which tends to change more frequently.

Bought it. $12 and some change. How could I not? I'm one of the few who prefers the Extended Cut (not really compelled to seek out fan edits online because I prefer to watch things easily on my OLED); for me, whatever faults it has with reused footage, clumsy edits and unfinished effects, it improves upon by providing a much richer, true-to-the-book story-telling experience. The theatrical edit is just too much of a hatchet job for me, with a lamentable amount of tender, juicy meat lopped off with the fat.

What this movie really needs is a director's cut. I'm sure Shout would love to do it, but sadly it will never happen.

4K remaster of both cuts via seamless branching? I'd go for it.

Doubt a branched version of Dune and it's TV cut would work. The extended is such an incompetent mess and almost none of it matches up with theatrical in a useful way.

But that's what 2nd discs are for.

I sympathize with those who like the extra content in the Judas Booth version but I can't bring myself watch that one when I revisit Dune.

[Show spoiler]The Spicediver fan edit is not perfect and it's in 480p [shudder], but it is as close to a proper director's cut as we are likely to get. Miles better than the TV cut and with even more story elements included.

Frank wrote books 1 thru 6, and left behind extensive notes for a concluding volume 7... which were then lost for about 20 years. After writing various prequels, Brian & Kevin turned Frank's notes into the two volume conclusion, Hunters & Sandworms.

And man, would I ever love to see HBO, or somebody, take this to tv and turn it into the next "Game of Thrones". Movies would be good, but there's enough material already written to last 30 seasons.

I know the story I did remember the thing about seven books correctly

It would be insane if HBO would go Game of Thrones on Dune. I wouldn't be able to contain my enthusiasm. It'd just be a little annoying to wait around for Heretics to come around

Two discs would be a bit much. I dunno. In the spoiler I think the most current revision of it is the one to go for.

The seventh book is Eye, if only because of The Road to Dune.

There are no other books.
