That is pretty much how I see things. I had Stargate on VHS then a widescreen VHS was release then I bought it on DVD and now in BD. I know this will surprise a lot of people but that was my choice, no one force me to buy them multiple time in different format. But it seem Lucas is forcing the entire world to buy his Star Wars product, some sort of mass collective hypnotism

No matter what that man does he'll continue to get the hate from the "interneters". Mark my words, when Star Wars comes out, even if it the originals, there will still be *****ing and complaining from some of them (though I think some of them would actually stop) for even more trivial reasons.

Anyway...about Star Trek. I just watched it again today, I believe the 3rd maybe 4th time I watched since I got it.

Although I'm not one of those massive complainers, I do understand where they're coming from. While I'm only a modest fan of the original SW movies, I wouldn't buy the modified "special edition" cuts, particularly the revision 2 ones since Christensen and his lack-of-talent was added to ruin the ending of Jedi, and essentially piss on the grave of a much better actor. I can't wait to see what's done with revision 3, after Lucas goes to see Avatar and falls in love with its CGI.

And when the original cuts were released on DVD, what did we get? Non-anamorphic laserdisc transfers, with no cleanup whatsoever. Disgraceful, and I ripped them instead of buying them.

From a man that has said he doesn't agree colorizing old Three Stooges shorts for DVD, I find the whole affair incredibly hypocritical.

On topic, Trek is pretty awesome. This movie blows the prequels out of the water.

Hayden has had critically acclaimed performances. Yours are...?
Replacing an actor for a brief shot of him standing around and smiling is not "pissing" on a grave, since the actor's actual performance (Vader's unmasking) is wholly intact.

ILM has a lot of shots in [I]Avatar[/I, and they were heavily involved with the testing and R&D for the entire project. Lucas has been experimenting with 3-D for quite some time...over 20 years. Lucas was an executive producer on Michael Jackson's Captain EO. Not to mention he pioneered the use of the digital cameras used to capture Avatar's live action. ILM also pioneered the 3-D conversion process used on Chicken Little and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Oh, and 3-D processed Star Wars have been planned for quite some time.

It's hypocritical how? Star Wars are his films and property. The colorization of the Three Stooges was done by people not involved with the original productions. There's a middle finger not big enough for the fanboys who dare tell me I can't change my creations, my properties. They say LUCASFILM, not "FANBOY".

You don't need to be one of the people who whines about these movies 24/7 in order to be annoyed at how they've been altered.

I'm not an actor, but it's my right to comment. Anyway, these movies weren't among any "acclaimed" performances he may've given. That was partly bad writing, but all the same he certainly isn't among the best in Hollywood.

And unlike most, I've never downloaded a song or movie in my life, or purchased a bootleg. I already own the laserdiscs, which those DVD releases were really no different than; and the VHS release as well. I don't consider my actions questionable.

I've never seen anyone, even the most insane hardcore fan, suggest Lucas can't change the movies as he sees fit. Unlike most directrors/writers and their films, he does own SW outright and can do what he likes. But he has an irritating habit of seeming to try and deny the existence of anything he believes doesn't live up to his "standards". The Holiday Special vanished into the ether (in that case, deservedly so ), and now the theatrical cuts seem to have joined them, for the most part.

Lucas commenting on the Three Stooges, to which he has no ownership or right to decide anything, is no different than my commenting on what he's done to the theatrical cuts of SW (if they even exist anymore). If you respect his right to his opinion on that, you should be willing to do the same for others.

Many, many movies get both theatrical and directors cuts released to DVD or BD. All most fans are really asking for is that SW have this same treatment, and theatrical versions of these movies get releases that look comparable to the pristine transfers the special editions have recieved. That doesn't seem unreasoanble... and DVD's seamless branching technique could've made it easy. But if you want to keep attacking me over it, feel free.

Round and round, the circle of life, stick and stones.

The deal with the original version of Star Wars as to do with the fact that money will have to be given to the ex Mrs Lucas. If that is the case and he refuse to release them in order to make sure that she doesn't get one dollar out of them, I truly don't have much of a problem with it. Lucas as taken care of three kids on his own so we can pretty say he is a guy capable of having a family life. No lady get tired of him, wanted a huge chunk of money (like all women seeking a divorce) and live the easy life. If that is true (who can say it's their private life afterall and we will probably never know) I say good for him, don't give in and make sure she doesn't get anything.

For the Holliday special, it's pretty clear that he is totaly in denial and embarass by that. I wrote 3 letters in the last 20 years about this (one actualy got publish in the Star Wars magazine) saying that he should release the Holliday special. Ok so it's horrible and it's embarassing yes but it should still be release IMO. But once again if it's got something to do with the divorce and where she get's a slice of the pie, then I say again for him if he refuse to release it.

hm, you know, I've never actually heard anything like that before. If that's truly the reason he's decided to release the altered cuts exclusively, then at least that's a reason I can somewhat understand (even if it is still a bit silly, lol), as opposed to if it had simply been his denying their existence like he does with the Holiday Special.. He'd hardly be the first one to have gone through a bitter divorce (not saying I have ) and begrudge having to give anything more to his ex after-the-fact.

Who know's if this is the reason or not but this as been floating around here in there for years. As for his reaction, well I suppose everyone react's to a divorce differently. One of my friends got 2 of them and he'sstill going all smile with not a care in the world. I guess Lucas was a bit more bitter about it? Who can say, no matter how you look at it, he is human like the rest of us.

No, no more money for Mr. Lucas!
Well, I'm definitely not one to care one way or the other about sticking it to George Lucas. If SW comes out on blu, I'll be there on day one. I went through two VHS sets and a DVD set. I'll put up the dough for a BD, too.

I guess I'm an original fan. I was a kid when I saw the first one in theater back in the day. We stood in a line that wrapped around the block for this movie.

Difference is...I don't feel any sense of entitlement for that.
