And when the original cuts were released on DVD, what did we get? Non-anamorphic laserdisc transfers, with no cleanup whatsoever. Disgraceful, and I ripped them instead of buying them. From a man that has said he doesn't agree colorizing old Three Stooges shorts for DVD, I find the whole affair incredibly hypocritical. On topic, Trek is pretty awesome. This movie blows the prequels out of the water. Last edited by TM2-Megatron; 12-20-2009 at 10:05 PM. |

Really?

Replacing an actor for a brief shot of him standing around and smiling is not "pissing" on a grave, since the actor's actual performance (Vader's unmasking) is wholly intact. ILM has a lot of shots in [I]Avatar[/I, and they were heavily involved with the testing and R&D for the entire project. Lucas has been experimenting with 3-D for quite some time...over 20 years. Lucas was an executive producer on Michael Jackson's Captain EO. Not to mention he pioneered the use of the digital cameras used to capture Avatar's live action. ILM also pioneered the 3-D conversion process used on Chicken Little and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Oh, and 3-D processed Star Wars have been planned for quite some time. Quote:

Really. This is the first time I've even thought much about SW since Episode III came out in theatres. Since it was already being commented on in this thread, I thought I'd chime in as well. You don't need to be one of the people who whines about these movies 24/7 in order to be annoyed at how they've been altered.

I'll be happy to buy them when they're released properly. I'd be just as happy to pay a premium for them if they did. But I refuse to spend hard-earned money on a product I don't believe was made to the highest standards the manufacturers were capable of. And unlike most, I've never downloaded a song or movie in my life, or purchased a bootleg. I already own the laserdiscs, which those DVD releases were really no different than; and the VHS release as well. I don't consider my actions questionable. Quote:
![]() Lucas commenting on the Three Stooges, to which he has no ownership or right to decide anything, is no different than my commenting on what he's done to the theatrical cuts of SW (if they even exist anymore). If you respect his right to his opinion on that, you should be willing to do the same for others. Many, many movies get both theatrical and directors cuts released to DVD or BD. All most fans are really asking for is that SW have this same treatment, and theatrical versions of these movies get releases that look comparable to the pristine transfers the special editions have recieved. That doesn't seem unreasoanble... and DVD's seamless branching technique could've made it easy. But if you want to keep attacking me over it, feel free. The deal with the original version of Star Wars as to do with the fact that money will have to be given to the ex Mrs Lucas. If that is the case and he refuse to release them in order to make sure that she doesn't get one dollar out of them, I truly don't have much of a problem with it. Lucas as taken care of three kids on his own so we can pretty say he is a guy capable of having a family life. No lady get tired of him, wanted a huge chunk of money (like all women seeking a divorce) and live the easy life. If that is true (who can say it's their private life afterall and we will probably never know) I say good for him, don't give in and make sure she doesn't get anything. For the Holliday special, it's pretty clear that he is totaly in denial and embarass by that. I wrote 3 letters in the last 20 years about this (one actualy got publish in the Star Wars magazine) saying that he should release the Holliday special. Ok so it's horrible and it's embarassing yes but it should still be release IMO. But once again if it's got something to do with the divorce and where she get's a slice of the pie, then I say again for him if he refuse to release it. |

I guess I'm an original fan. I was a kid when I saw the first one in theater back in the day. We stood in a line that wrapped around the block for this movie. Difference is...I don't feel any sense of entitlement for that. Last edited by cynatnite; 12-21-2009 at 05:35 AM. Reason: deleted the pic |
