look forward to watching this again, on its way from amazon germany, i realised it wasnt dvd it was laserdisc the last time i saw this film, and before that on its original cinema release... always enjoyed this film and its oddness

No, the bitrate is about the same as the US disc. The difference is AVC instead of VC-1.

DE seems very good, but it's missing english subs. Even localized text is in german only right?

It is missing English subs, which is why I am holding onto the US disc. Localized text? There are no titles if that's what you mean.

Mine arrived today, no time to watch all of it, but had a quick skim and it looks very nice, best ive seen it for sure, lovely dts sound too.. i like the reversible cover also. Great £8 spent

Glad I could help. There's probably not a bigger Dune fan on this forum other than myself so I am glad to share that with others here.

Only 2 years until the 35th anniversary. If only Lynch cared about it as much as Miss Laurentis. If I remember correctly she was the reason why it received a new 2K master in 2006.

Considering that a new Dune film has just been announced, it's entirely possible that a new transfer will be made at some point in the near future.

It would be nice to have a high quality transfer without all that dirt that's on the current one.

You are referring to the optical shots I believe i.e. 3rd Stage Guild Navigator, Shield Practice, Folding Space, Worms, etc. I don't think they can look much better.

Geoff will have to chime on this one, but I think it's much harder to remove dirt from optical shots.

Just got the 2 disc Germany edition with both cuts. First off, I couldn't play this thing on a Playstation 3. Told me it was PAL (probably due to one of the logos) and exited me out. No way around unfortunately.

Luckily my cheap, region free blu-ray player worked perfectly. But I thought this disc was region free? It does say region B on the back, No?

It is region free. Not sure why it did that.

Also, if it does have a PAL logo then it's your display not supporting 50Hz. Most displays support 50hz, but there's a few out there don't.

Did they change the disk recently? Mine actually says Region B on the back.

The case does say B locked, but the discs are indeed region free.

The error came from the PS3 not my display actually. This was on my projector Pioneer FPJ1 which supports 50Hz
