The folks at Grimm got some scary-good news today: NBC has picked up the freshman spooker for a second season!
The Friday drama has been a rare bright spot this season for NBC, which has seen nearly all of its rookie dramas — The Playboy Club, The Firm, Free Agents and Prime Suspect — quickly crash and burn.
The drama with a fairy tale twist from Buffy scribes David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf has been a steady performer for the network against established genre fare Fringe and Supernatural in the time slot.
Grimm scribe Akela Cooper broke the news on Twitter on Friday morning, tweeting: "Just heard the good news: #GRIMM IS GETTING A SECOND SEASON!! ... Walk into the office this morning & our showrunners David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf tell me the good news: #Grimm is picked up 4 a second season!"
No matter what is going on at NBC, they will never resurrect a Fox castoff. Best bet for this is Netflix and it's such an expensive (and underwhelming) show, I doubt it'll happen.

I can't fault them for that. The ratings were atrocious. I tried very hard to like the Event, but it was a mess. I never recovered from the winter break to watch the back half.

The Event ended on an awesome cliffhanger. As a sci-fi fan, I was sad to see the show not go to a second season because it would've been awesome.

Agreed! Not every show can hit the ground running. It can sometimes take a few episodes or an entire season to find it's footing....some take more than that. Star Trek Enterprise took 2 seasons for it catch hold. Season 3 and 4 were immensely better. Babylon 5, season 1 was crap...the rest is apparently excellent with a spotty fifth season. Everyone's different for how long they'll give a show before giving up though. I liked The Event from the second it started, but something like Surface took several episodes to catch me...or Jericho that a whole season to convince me.... (sci-fi shows).

Not making the cut, at least thus far, are veteran procedurals CSI: NY and CSI: Miami and the on-again/off-again Rules of Engagement, while freshmen series such as A Gifted Man, Unforgettable and Rob are also MIA. (CSI: NY resumes its season on Friday, March 30, while Gifted Man has already aired its finale.)
As for Two and a Half Men, CBS and Warner Bros. Television are in preliminary negotiations regarding ordering more seasons. As Chuck Lorre said earlier this week, “It’s unusual when they cancel a show that’s in the Top 10, so I think there’s hope… [but] everybody’s gotta sign back up” — namely, Ashton Kutcher.
UPDATE 6/29: Carrie Wells will live to remember another day, now that CBS has officially resurrected-slash-renewed Unforgettable for a 13-episode sophomore run, to air next summer.
ORIGINAL STORY 6/20: CBS is in talks to pluck the Poppy Montgomery-fronted Unforgettable from the cancellation ashes, for a 13-episode Season 2, our sister site Deadline reports.
Said sophomore run would be targeted for a Summer 2013 bow.
Unforgettable, which aired Tuesdays at 10, drew 11 million total viewers and a 2.0 demo rating with its Season 1 finale, yet it wasn’t among the 19 shows renewed by CBS for the 2012-13 TV season.
A&E's Longmire Saddles Up for Second Season

The mystery series, set in a part of Wyoming where lots of bad stuff seems to happen, stars Robert Taylor as the titular character and Battlestar Galactica grad Katee Sackhoff as his deputy, Vic. Smallville alum Cassidy Freeman plays Longmire’s daughter.
A&E apparently likes the numbers Longmire is racking up: Its premiere grabbed 4.1 million total viewers and was the channel’s most-watched scripted series debut ever.
Longmire airs Sundays at 10/9c, and its Season 1 finale is scheduled for August 5.
TNT Realizes It's Struck Black Gold, Renews Dallas for Season 2

TNT has renewed Dallas, its oil-centric drama, for a second season.
Thus far, the slick continuation — which stars original cast members Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman and Linda Gray, as well as Josh Henderson and Jesse Metcalfe as their offspring — has been averaging 6.9 million viewers each week of its inaugural season.
“Dallas has been a success for us on every level: pitch-perfect writing, smart directing and buzz-worthy performances by a new generation of stars and their iconic counterparts,” TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies programming head Michael Wright said in a statement, adding “it’s clear the Ewings of Southfork have once again captured the imagination of viewers.”
Dallas‘ Season 1 finale airs Aug. 15. The 15-episode sophomore run is slated to debut in 2013.
Rizzoli & Isles Rewarded With Season 4 Pickup

The Newsroom, an hour-long chronicle of a cable news show in transition, stars Jeff Daniels as the show’s acerbic host and Emily Mortimer as his former girlfriend and current lead producer. Creator Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) uses actual news events of the recent past, such as the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, as fodder for Newsroom’s show-within-a-show, News Night.
HBO’s speedy decision makes sense in light of recent ratings: Newsroom’s premiere drew in 2.1 million total viewers, which was just short of Game of Thrones’ ratings for its Season 1 debut but a large improvement on True Blood’s initial outing (1.4 mil) in 2008.
The upcoming season of True Blood will be its first without creator Alan Ball as showrunner. Ball, who’s working on new shows for Cinemax and HBO, will remain an executive producer on the show.
Blood‘s Season 5 premiere grabbed 6.3 million viewers across both of its broadcasts, almost reaching the numbers it hit with the previous season’s debut.

Though it appeared as though the third season might be the HBO comedy’s last, TVLine has confirmed that the Danny McBride-starring series is suiting up for an eight-episode Season 4.
In last season’s finale – which drew 1.6 million viewers — former pro baseball pitcher Kenny finally got called back up to the big leagues. But he walked away from it all, faked his death and returned to Myrtle Beach to be with April and their son.
Speculation about the show’s demise ran rampant. McBride, though, always left the door open, saying in this HBO Q&A that “as long as [Kenny Powers] is alive, there are a lot of stories you could tell.”
The network just announced another season of comedian’s series Louie. FX’s entertainment president John Landgraf made the announcement to critics at their press tour session in Beverly Hills on Saturday. Landgraf praised Louis C.K. for his recent Emmy nomination, while noting “we were obviously disappointed when show was not nominated for best comedy series.”
FX also announced that Russell Brand’s new late night show Brand X will receive an additional seven episodes that will run in the fall, but that the show would also under some creative restructuring. “There’s many changes were going to be making to Brand X … I’m truly excited by the week to week creative growth through the five episodes that have aired to date,” Landgraf said.
Comedies Wilfred and Anger Management are also looking likely for a pickup. And Justified? Landgraf noted he expects the drama to remain on the network for at least six seasons.
The executive also gave an update on superhero drama project Powers. It’s still not dead! More scripts are being written. If Landgraf likes the new material, he expects FX will shoot an entirely new Powers pilot with a different cast — and, yes, that probably includes a new star instead of Jason Patric.
“Jason Patric certainly wants to look at the material, but it’s just as likely we’ll start from scratch,” Landgraf said.
I've still got my fingers crossed for one more season of Fringe, or at the very least a half season that they were talking about.

Monkey Flee: NBC Puts Animal Practice
to Sleep, Replaces With Whitney

Filling the Wednesday at 8/7 void beginning Nov. 14 will be Whitney.
Though Practice initially benefitted from a strong Olympics lead-in, the Justin Kirk-starring veterinarian comedy consistently pulled low numbers, this week mustering just 3.8 mil and a 1.0. The show’s Wednesday companion, fellow rookie comedy Guys With Kids, appears safe for the moment.
Whitney was originally scheduled to premiere this Friday along with Community, but NBC announced last week it was keeping both shows in its “back pocket [in case] we need to make any schedule changes” earlier in the week.
Practice, which will air its last episode on Nov. 7, is this season’s second cancellation (following the demise of CBS’ Made in Jersey.)
