Well, I'm not really a devoted fan of most disaster films, but I like the heart of the story behind "Deep Impact". When you boil it all down, its about humanity's desire to survive, and the differences some people will seek to resolve, when they realize they may not have another chance. There's the bravery of the astronaut crew, Leo & Sarah, Jenny Lerner and her parents, even the President of the United States. It has a ton of heart, which really shows.

By contrast, the only aspects of "Armageddon" that I thought got close were Will Patton's character and his son, and the lines drawn between Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Liv Tyler. It's a shame they didn't have more of that in the film.

This. And Armageddon is more of a special effects and fast cut orgy. A good juxtaposition to Deep Impact would be von Trier's Melancholia. My god, what a wonderfully depressing film that is.

This is a great movie but I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it. I purchased it for that a few months ago. It really is a good film.

Is the new edition (different cover art) still a BD50 or did they shrink it down to a BD25? Target has both versions for $7. Same SKU. Just one is the cover that appears in the review on this site, and one is a newer cover. All the features that are listed are identical...

I've had both, and they're identical inside.

I watched some segments of the movie tonight and I swear, Tea Leoni's reading of the teleprompter for her 'news' segments are so dry and boring - it's just cringe inducing.
