This is the dumbest thread I have ever read and if I was not at work there is no way I would have wasted this 20 seconds.

It appears that the porn industry feels the same way also.

From thedigitalbits:

Quote:
Finally, here's one thing that DID take me by surprise. The adult film industry isn't preparing to jump on the Blu-ray 3D bandwagon yet. Over the years, the porn industry has been among the first to exploit new home video technologies and formats, including VHS, laserdisc, DVD, DVD-ROM and more, and one would reasonably expect them to jump all over 3D for... well, obvious reasons. The industry was holding its annual Adult Entertainment Expo in Vegas concurrent to CES, and so I stopped by to see how companies like Vivid and Digital Playground were doing with Blu-ray, which they've adopted after a slow start. Each BD supporting company I spoke with claimed that their BD software sales are doing well and growing steadily, and most cited the PS3 as the big driver of this. However, when I asked about Blu-ray 3D, most of these companies were less than enthusiastic. (None of the people I spoke with were aware that the PS3 would be getting a Blu-ray firmware update later this year.) One reason for their reluctance seems to be cost. As you may recall, the adult industry was quick embrace HD-DVD during the format war because it was cheap. When that format failed, it appears to have made the industry a little gun-shy about embracing new HD technology. They've been a little more cautious with Blu-ray, though as I noted that market is finally starting to take off. The OTHER reason for their lack of 3D enthusiasm is a little more amusing: At least one adult studio exec I spoke with at the Expo said he didn't think guys were going to want to... well, let's just say "do their business"... while sitting in front of a screen wearing "those damn silly glasses!" Go figure.

Amazing how passionate so many people are about something that "couldn't care less about". Who gives a shit? Don't watch 3D movies. Simple solution.

James Bond Franchise Going S3D!?!

Dorey. James Dorey here. :-) Well this makes my day if not my month so far! Nothing is confirmed yet and in fact the source of this rumor is a UK rag, but what the heck - this is James Bond!

According to The Sun (via IGN), Sam Mendes has been given a few extra months in pre-production to prep for shooting the next JAMES BOND thriller in stereoscopic 3D!

I tell you what... this is icing on the cake after what Cameron has done with AVATAR! We are now seeing trusted and proven franchises that are the epitome of industry go S3D and I could not be more elated. A recent comment on MarketSaw some time ago said that pretty soon it will only be news if a new movie is NOT in 3D. I agree!!

So what do you think of Daniel Craig once again suiting up as agent 003D... errr 007 to save the world?!

Disney Releasing A CHRISTMAS CAROL on S3DHD Blu-ray In Q4 This Year

Jim here. Disney is releasing A CHRISTMAS CAROL on Blu-ray in the fourth quarter of 2010 along with a special 3D Showcase Disc. And yes, it will be aligned closely with the launch of the S3DHD TVs from various manufacturers.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL is pegged to be their first S3DHD Blu-ray disc ever.

The Showcase Disc includes upcoming promotional items for Disney 3D Home Videos - like trailers and clips. Likely to be highlighted will be ALICE IN WONDERLAND, TOY STORY 3 and some original content exclusively for this disc. The disc is actually available right now for manufacturers to include with their new S3DHD TV offerings.

Finally we are getting 3D home videos that are NOT anaglyph (blue & red glasses)! Can't wait. I have not decided on equipment for myself yet, but I will keep you informed as to what I decide upon.

I'll switch to 3D Tv's when they become standard...

So, likely never.

Starts with G and ends with IMMICK!

I'm not too big on 3D either. There'll be one or two films I'd like to have on 3D but that's about it : /

It appears that ad campaigns for 3D will be based on the notion that anybody not wanting to wear glasses to watch 3D commercials for sex pills, or soap, or collectible toy fire trucks, is some kind of Luddite that doesn't really like any modern invention.

sheesh

Blu 3D with glasses compared with Blu 2D is about the same as one of those goofy Hummer stretch limousines is to a Ferrari. It costs more, goes slower, and really isn't an engineering masterpiece.

A real advancement in 3D will not use glasses. That is a short term compromise, abhorrent to anyone who wears prescription eyewear, and worst of all, the crappy foresight of whoever designed this partial solution renders obsolete entire home theater systems - for lack of HDMI 1.4 connectivity.

This makes as much sense as scrapping a two year old airline jet because the radio's range is too short. It's insane.

This thing is a mess. All the "you can't afford it" and "you're a Fred Flintstone" taunts beg the question: Why couldn't something that was a true engineering marvel be introduced? This thing is a mess.

Save your contempt for these folks:

-Whoever invented HDMI 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3
-Whoever knew the standard would be 1.4 and kept building devices with an inadequate HDMI spec, right up to the minute you wrote your post
-Whoever kept that inadequacy secret from the 4.5 million people who bought Blu players since October of 2009

They went nuts for it, and it was a huge draw for the "kiss of the cobra queen" type crowd.

It pooped out, people hate wearing glasses.

I don't like broccoli. If I don't want it - I don't eat it.

There are 2D versions available in theaters - no one is being forced to watch 3D - and 3D in home most likely won't be catching on for quite some time.
If it's part of the development cost of the film, or the Blu release, you're going to be paying for it, whether you can view it or not.

Guy rolls up with those spinner hubcaps. Is this an innovation?

Look, we could have had electric hybrids of the Chevy Volt variety five to ten years ago. Instead, we've watched really non-technical "green" people crow about the Toyota Prius, which gets about 1/5 the mileage.

It's not fighting the future to criticize a ridiculously expensive, and ludicrously presented ("if you want to see it, buy a whole new rig, or if you can't afford it, you must not really want it') solution like this one.

There are untold billions of dollars out there in orphaned equipment, due to sloppy and delayed implementation of the HDMI 1.4 spec, among other things.

And 1950's glasses, completed with some auto-blink mode that's supposed to drag this into the 21st century, are outmoded before they're plugged in.

I don't care what kind of advancement this is supposed to be; the technical term for this is "klooge", and the legal name for it is "back alley hustle".

Call it whatever you like.

Whatever. One guy around here was swooning over the notion that Dish, ESPN, and NatGeo or somebody was going to move to 3D.

I guess he forgot that there are umpteen million cable boxes out there without HDMI 1.4 connections. Wonder if all these big $ folks are going to buy new ones for everybody. After all, 71 million HDTV sets have been sold...of course, not a single one of them has HDMI 1.4 for this groovy new thingie.

Now, if the studios start busting out dual camera rigs for every "romantic comedy" out there, or these hyuck hyuck Judd Apatow "I poked a blonde" monthly productions, along with the major post production costs associated with making a 3D film, they won't be paying for it. You will. They'll pass on the cost.

The sweaty "can't wait" and "come on, it's new, let's all jump up and down and wave the flag" crowd will sneer about "betcha can't afford it" before they disappear into the discount threads and brag about coupon clipping and price matching a deal for some two year old Apatow flick. 'Twas ever thus.

Looks like we're expected to pay for their continuing development of a very much unfinished product for the next few years.

yeah and since before that Dish did not have HD and TVs where not HD and there where umpteen millions without HD, HD should never have been offered for people willing to upgrade for something better just because you don't
