Default Am I one of the few that don't care for AQ

Like the title states, am I one of the few that don'r really care for AQ and HD sound, 7.1, etc, etc. I have a simple 5.1 system and I'm happy with it. I care more for the actual PQ and the movie itself. Sorry if this has been asked or posted before.

I been meaning to ask since I always see people bashing warner brothers for loussy sound..lol.. Also please don't bash me.

For me AQ is 1/2 or more of the experience.
I think you do care about AQ - why do you have a 5.1 system and not stereo through the TV speakers?

Once you get lossless sound, you almost need it.
DVD or lossy BD tracks just don't cut it once you hear lossless.

But if I was in your shoes, I would still buy the movie, even if it has crappy sound and I have true hd system.. This is what I'm trying to say. PQ and the movie itself is more important that sound for me. So I'll buy regardless of AQ on the movie. Lol

No, I care more for PQ and the movie itself? Audio quality is half the movie experience or more! I find because I don't have a big TV that audio quality makes a movie come alive, for me.

For me.... good audio quality is ten times as important as picture quality when it comes to actually drawing you into the movie. I remember watching 28 Days Later when I only had 6.1 Dolby Digital..... and this zombie crashed through a window right behind the character on screen. I heard that window crash right behind me and I jumped and screamed like a little girl. Even the goriest picture on screen would never get that kind of reaction out of me.

I remember feeling the same when people were complaining about Anamorphic transfers on DVD back in the day before I invested in a 16X9 set. Sure enough I was pretty pissed at myself after upgrading my monitor that I had bought so many non anamorphic titles. Once I switched to blu I started making the same mistake. I still didn't have HD audio capability and bought a few titles with lossy audio. Once I sampled HD sound I stopped buying anything lossy. Now I have HD sound and I'm in awe of it. I'll not buy another title unless it has lossless sound.

I love the HD audio portion of blu-rays.

I'm watching Matrix Reloaded right now in Dolby TrueHD and loving every moment of it.

Mark my words.... Once you go HDMI lossless HD audio, you will wish you did it sooner.... mainly because now you'll have 2 re-experience all these good movies the way they were intended to be heard. I agree on the movie audio/soundtrack being important. Try watching a scary movie with your subwoofer off, and audio as low as possible..... you'll get a weak thrill if any. My SVS just went down, and is getting replaced.... my wife, who really could care less, said "these movies aren't the same???" Good luck on your project!

You say picture quality and the movie it self is way more important than audio, ever since the Jazz Singer in 1927 audio has been a major part films themselves. Imagine Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Top Gun, Se7en, Das Boot, Deer Hunter or even Mulholland Dr with absolutly no audio what so ever.

AQ is part of the movie itself!

IMO Great AQ can make a dull movie like Cloverfield, seem so much better. And I don't even have halfway good speakers.

With DD and DTS playing at higher bit rates on blu, so you will hear great sound if you do not have HD audio. And I think that YES you do need the audio as a major part of the movie experience. A roommate in college was a english major/film minor and I used to watch a TON of movies with him, and I learned from him that each movie, each scene, is its own tale. Every scene tells you something about the movie, not just the dialog, but foreshadowing, or tricking your senses. This can be done through visuals (PQ) or sound (AQ) So this has to be a 50/50 balance of PQ & AQ, sometimes more one way or the other. But the director will give them to you one way or the other, or both at the same time.

If you don't want HD audio, then don't get it, you will still get most of what the director is sending out. Just understand that the fullness of the sound will be missing, little nuances of the movie that may, or may not, add to the viewing experience. Just today I was watching BofB on blu and there was a comment in the background that I had never heard before on the DVD version, was it important, not really, but it added to the scene and gave the scene added depth, and pieced it together better then before.

But if your happy then be happy, its your viewing experience thats important.

I got into audio equipment for the sound. I got into Home Theater from the audio end of things. So to me, the audio is probably at least if not as important as the picture quality.

Here's how I break it down...

PQ is very important. AQ is the most important.

Until they create the ability for the video to be presented in a Holodeck-esque manner where I am literally standing in the scene, the audio is the only thing that can truly create the experience of being in the scene. That is the next stage of entertainment and the audio quality is the closest way for this to happen right now since it is the only element of any presentation that breaks through the 2-dimensional barrier.

AQ FOR THE WIN!!!
