Since this is such a controversial ending, I would like to see if there is a majority opinion, one way or the other.

Please vote and discuss your reasons.

It was great. I am a big fan of twists, especially dark twists.

I thought the ending was sweet. Don't want to ruin the ending for those who haven't seen it yet.

Yes, its been discussed before. However, I wanted to see if there was a clear majority opinion or if it was evenly split.

LOL. Not according to King, who liked Darabonts ending better.

This is true, he did prefer it. I personally prefer King's ending. I voted for the option about hating the ending because I just didn't like it and thought it was unnecessary. However, the latter part of that choice I don't necessarily agree with--I don't think it ruined the movie because I didn't think the movie was that great up until then. That's just my opinion

haha you know what it was? I have two computers--a laptop and a desktop. My desktop has a wireless keyboard and mouse, but I put the keyboard off the side when I'm working at the desk. So, sometimes I'll go on my desktop real quick to check this site, and all I do is use emoticons since my mouse is accessible but not the keyboard

But yes, I know I'm very long-winded and talk/type much too much. A bad habit that I find hard to break.

I liked the movie, but the ending was too much for me. I have a 7 year old son, and well...the movie depressed me. I do believe that the movie was very well done. If an alternate ending was included, I would buy it in an instant.

I loved the ending. I've always loved endings that were just entirely non-happy ending, non-traditional ending.

Just the overwhelming sense of "oh bloody hell what have I done?" and just trying to put yourself in his shoes and imagining what that must feel like to have just done that, and then get rescued.

Actually one of my favorite endings of all time.

As heart wrenching as the ending was, I think it completes a piece that is about faith and its extremes, despair, and ultimately the wrongs of giving up.
It makes the movie hard to watch again for me since I am now the father of a one year old, but it definitely is an amazing moment of cinema, albeit a really hard one to watch and stomach.
