I've used them lots of times in the DVD days, and they were great. They never charged me before they shipped my order.

I just ordered Season 1 @ DVD Empire. Their price is $64.98 AND there is an $8 coupon available for any order over $55. Net price $56.98! I doubt we'll see this any lower in the foreseeable future.

The coupon code is:1539489.

Go to it!

Dang i never knew eack season had so many episodes. It really makes the $65 a bit better to swallow. I have never seen the whole run only random episodes on TV so i am looking forward to this.

Plus the Image not being a studio is footing the whole bill in bringing this series to BD so that is another reason for the high price.
I hope they get their hands on the Twilight Zone show that ran between '85-'89.

I hope WB or HBO gets going on putting 'Tales from the Crypt out on BD.

I sincerely doubt the 80s Twilight Zone will ever make it to Blu-ray. The episodes were edited on tape, meaning it's locked into standard definition.

I think this is mentioned elsewhere in the thread, but Image *does* have their hands on that and have released them all on DVD in 2 sets:
http://www.amazon.com/Twilight-Zone-.../dp/B00068NVLQ
http://www.amazon.com/Twilight-Zone-.../dp/B00092ZLDK

It's a whole pile of fun, but doesn't look good at all. And likely never will. From Wikipedia:
Alan Brennert, one of the writer-producers who contributed to the series, wrote that the picture quality of the DVD set was "NOT a 'bad transfer'" but rather that the episodes were "shot on film, but edited on video. In other words, the raw footage was 35 mm film, which was then transferred to videotape. Editing, dubbing, special effects—everything was done on video. We were in fact the first drama series on television to do this. So unlike the original Rod Serling TZ, there ARE no original film negatives from which Image could strike new prints for transfer. All that exist are the old one-inch master tapes, and the unfortunate reality is, videotape does deteriorate some over time. Image has, in my opinion, done a superb job packaging our series, and it is to them that I award the five stars in this review! If not for their interest in bringing this show to DVD, those one-inch masters might eventually have eroded into so much static (as my 3/4-inch tapes of the show already have)." He concluded by saying "If you enjoyed this series, just be grateful it's been preserved!"

I doubt you'll ever see this on blu-ray.

Looks like that one expired at the end of July. There's a new $8 off $60 coupon: 1543775 (exp. 9/1)

but what really bugs me is that all of these B&W re-masters are released in 4:3!!!! WHY!!! I mean i know it could get difficult, but you know, if i'm buying a blu-ray for High-Def picture, i should also get at least a 16:9 aspect ratio. And lets not forget this isn't going to be cheap. Aside from myself having that dream, i still could not imagine what any of these old B&W re-masters would look like in a widescreen format...

You get them in 4:3 because that's the way they were recorded. Making them widescreen would only reduce the amount of picture you see; there are no "secret" widescreen masters of these shows.

Blu-ray does not mean 16:9. It means the best presentation in audio & video that the source can provide. And if the source is 4:3 (like Evil Dead), then it should be presented as such.

Why?

Because 4:3 is the original aspect ratio. If it was done in 16:9 then the top and bottom of the picture would be cropped and look like shit. You can always zoom the picture in to fill the screen if you like.

I still cant understand why people get so annoyed by this but then at the same time are perfectly fine with widescreen aspect ratios where black bars appear at the top or bottom.
