This couldn't possibly be for real. When you're virtually the head of a potentially huge franchise such as Transformers, you don't want something like this to happen. I'll wait to see if this becomes a bigger deal. Almost everywhere related to HD in general has had something official about him backing off of Transformers 2. When (hopefully, if) I see this spread I'll believe it. Maybe his kid got on his computer and logged in as him.

Either Bay is playing ball or he's a coward. There's nothing for him to take pride in.

The price thing is total garbage. Anyone who mentions price as a reason for why HD DVD is superior is a dope. Ya hear me? A dope!!

For once, Scott Hentrick seems to have done some homework:
Hollywood in HiDef.com, no less

PT TUESDAY -- Michael Bay himself posted a further backpedal on his web site late Tuesday saying he over-reacted with his first posting and that he "might be back on for 'Transformers 2.' He also said he heard where Paramount is coming from today, which means that his comments sent top studio brass scurrying to reign him in and Lord knows what kind of discussions about back-end points and fees were discussed. Heck, about 4 years ago Bay got Disney to give him a brand new Ferarri valued at $250,000 when he was in a snit over the studio holding him to his promise of delivering a PG-13 theatrical release of "Pearl Harbor" and then making him wait until months after the PG-13 DVD was released to finally introduce his R-rated cut, and because they wouldn't let his preferred Criterion Collection people produce the 4-disc set.
Bay, who, despite his reputation as a hothead and prone to knee-jerk reactions, was a prince when he accepted my invitation to receive a special DVD Exclusive Award in person a couple years ago, is surely playing this situation to his great advantage. And good for him.
Be sure to note that in his revised web site posting, Bay has not come close to retracting his comments that for Paramount/DreamWorks' "to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks!" At this point we can only let readers and consumers interpret what, if anything, led to the two backpedalling Bay web postings beyond what Bay has most recently posted.
Call him "sellout" if you want, call the first post "Harry Knowles Syndrome" ("Wow, the picture's so clear...Did HD invent this? "), but at least call it after a little bit of backstory.

To quote Anton Ego, I'd like some perspective, with a glass of wine.

Default Michael Bay now seems to like HD DVD?

These have been a couple of crazy days. Now Michael Bay seems to like HD DVD after watching "300" and understanding Paramount's position.

Quote:
Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three blu-ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Michael Bay

ok .. I am probably about to start something here ... but

300 had a lot of grain. Yes, 300 looked awesome with the grain... but do you guys really think this was a good title for him to base such a big decision on? Perhaps he should have watched the 5th element or bridge to therabitia instead!

Maybe he was referring to the Picture-in-Picture extras and web content?

He didn't really indicated what it was that 'rocked', but that would be my guess since it wasn't on the Blu-ray. Sounds like someone from Paramount personally ran over to his place with an HD DVD player and sat him down and explained a few things to him from their position.

He didn't come right out and say it but I suspect he liked the BEEFCAKE! in HD.

Ok first of all any big director and film lover loaded with money like Micahel Bay has a HD system at home. Are you kidding? He has probably watched many movies in BD and HD DVD over the past many months. This is total bs. Acting like he never seen a HD movie before are you ****ing kidding me. What a damn moron. Transformers was a shitty movie but after his statement I gained some respect for this guy but now it is all gone again. What a tard. Biggest tard ever. He honestly just floods Hollywood with big action movies with no plot or engaging characters at all. This is why he will never be Speilberg and just be a gimmick to appeal to dumbed down masses.

he was too drunk and prolly on crack when he watched 300. which explains why he loved the movie on HDDUD.
