I'm not saying it can't be done, but it is more of a challenge in something that is trying to maintain the highest fidelity of its signals. Gary |

i updated my 605 myself. basicly they send you a file that you burn to CD and update the 605 via the optical input. works a treat and takes about 15 seconds.

Not sure about that unit, but the sub output on my receiver is standard analog RCA. If the 605 is the same, you can use a $2 splitter from radio shack with no issues at all.

yep, you gotta connect a seperate CD player and it plays a .wav file that updates the reciever. there a couple of button presses to do before hand and the amp has to be in CD mode for it to work via optical.
I emailed Onkyo UK who sent out the firmware and instruction via email attachment. was really easy and saves the hassle of sending it in to update. Its the way they do it if you send it in. |

exactly. those discs will not output 7.1. some dts ma discs that are encoded with 7.1 cannot output it. its the way that the dts is encoded on these certain discs that the ps3 doesnt decode right. its only on maybe 6 discs that i know of. those are two.
what i think the first responder meant was that you cannot matrix 5.1 into 7.1. but i dont know about that cause i dont have a 605 |
