Case closed you the HD DVD price argument...it doesn't hold water.

I do enjoy my sound system, but you don't need an expensive sound system to hear the difference. I can also hear the difference using my computer sound system....sorry, all you have to do is listen since the sound system is the same, any difference in the source can be heard.

Not sure I agree with you on the Ipod issue, yes it was about $30 more than other players, but they didn't have the cool one-touch wheel (safer while driving). Also most of them had 6 or 8 GB capacity when I was looking. The Ipod had 30GB and a bigger screen. (I guess now you'll touch on the greater capacity of the BR). But the Ipod had 5 times the capacity, not just 50% more. It also had brand recognition. Much higher end and just about anything else out there. Sony and Toshiba are about equal.

You still have a very good point though, and you may be right. I just don't see the cool factor of Sony BR.... Now PS3 has that cool factor hence the 2 million units sold. See the difference?

Oh, and one more thing, how long has the $179 or whatever the price is HD-DVD add-on been available for the XBOX 360? Has that made a significant impact? Uhh, no, don't think so.

Sony and Toshiba have brand recognition, Toshiba gets an "F" from the Better Business Bureau, this is something most J6Ps DO know about.

What if they want to use static IP?
Who will explain to them what DNS is?
What is a default gateway?
Subnet mask?

How do you expect the "below average intelligence" (I fixed the typo for you) to do the above, if they aren't capable of doing a firmware upgrade on their HDM player?
Actually I didn't. I have a linksys with 8 ports I bought 2 years ago. When I got it I plugged it in and hooked everything up to it. Never had any setup. With the HD DVD player, same thing. Plug and Play. Maybe this had to do with my IP??? Not sure, but I have never had to reconfigure my router.

A PS3 person might though... oh but wait, PS3 people don't buy movies.
And we have the advantage of not having to run wires...what will the HD DVD person do with the player in the basement and the router in the upstairs office?

Guess they will need more stuff....

It made a big impact. Half of all HD DVD players out there are the xbox addon???

Please tell me it's wireless too...nothing like free internet access.

I somewhat agree, BUT, even though these devices are plug and play, most average folks STILL have issues with them and are very nervous about setting them up themselves. Also, whenever there are issues, which is common with Linksys, they rarely know what to do to fix them on their own.

Really? All I hear are complaints about it's quality... and, 1/2 of all HD-DVD players are the add-on? Please provide a link. I though the standalones were the strength of HD-DVD.

Also, can I can recordable HD-DVDs, or an HD-DVD camcorder? I can't last I checked.

You have much research to do....
No kidding. And that was in late 06 when PS3 came out. Everyone knows that and you should too. It was brilliant for Sony to add that in to their system.

I'm very surprised that this is news to you though... Are you trying to trick me???

Fact of the matter is that Toshiba has cut their own feet off with these price drops, they will NOT being able to compete by themselves against EVERY OTHER CE MANUFACTURER out there. Sorry. Even Onkyo was supposed to release a high-end HD-DVD player, but I have heard nothing of it in months.

It's not news to me and no I am not trying to trick you...lol

I am merely pointing out the fact that HD DVD has been lossing the software battle all year. The fact that they gain a little bit back does not compensate for the fact that they lost a lot of market share throughout the year.

Like I said...guess they need more stuff. Cheap players show why they are cheap...

Where as the PS3 Blu Ray owner wouldn't as most have wifi builtin.

So who is going to configure that wireless receiver, that you now need?

I see lots of free internet access around HD DVD owners homes in your scenario.....

Actually, ever since my friend and I drove up and down my block hacking in to peoples wrieless networks, I have not trusted wireless. When we built our house, I wired it.

Not sure how that made your argument stronger, but I'll admit I don't know how confortable the average person is with hooking up to a router.
