I too bought the Spidey trilogy. So I guess I'm one of the uncounted in that 130K.

Great news either way. As we would yell at Auburn: Kick 'em in the butt Big-Blu!

You are correct!!!

Unless money is not an obstacle for you, I beleive the avg consumer spent their $60 last week for the spidey box set, then to turn around and spend another $60 on cars/Rat. That is a lot to ask. Plus another $15 for the standard def version for my kids unit?

So Rat is #1 on amazon this week. What is their competition? Just because its #1 doens't mean it puts up Spidey like numbers. Look at Britney, normally 250k in album sales is HUGE for billboard as you can normally hit number one only moving about 40K, but insert The Eagles who only sold their CD at walmart, and they moved 750K in sales last week. So, #1 doesn't always equate to more units??????

I don't get all this "I have to buy the SD version so my kids can watch it in the car." WTF? Stick 'em in the boot like my parents did to us. Hell, we came out ok (except the time the car had a exhaust leak into the boot, but . . . )

boot = trunk in American English

I didn't..it was the worst of the series from my perspective.. it is also being bundled with the 40GB and some Sony T.V's..

I thought Transformers would tie or beat it because ..

1. HD DVD have been starved for titles relatively speaking..pent up demand
2. Transformers "played" better in reviews and the trailers on T.V IMO.
3. Blu-ray buyers have/had more titles to spend their money on - like Cars, Ratatouille, Pixar Shorts which is where I spent this week instead of last week on Spidey..
4. Bundles noted above.

I was concerned people were in fact going to be disappointed with much lower sales.

As I was writing this the Disney Blu-ray ad for Cars came one..hadn't seen it..completely dedicated to Blu-ray promoting it's benefits of 6x DVD resolution, 7.1 HiDef sound..no mention of DVD..

Go Disney...

I'm personally dissappointed with the results. I really thought this should hit 200k for the standalone Spidy 3. Instead its a virtual tie with Transformers. No doubt the Hd-dvd guys will be all over this fact...

Dude, until prices for players come down this is a hard reality. My kids have a tv and dvd player in their Toy Room. They at some point in the day want to watch a movie. I'm in the middle of playing COD4, and one of them asks to watch Rat. He doesn't know it won't play on his TV and I don't want to stop playing my game. The only logical solution is to just buy the Standard Def version. I'm not rich and spend $100 a week like some of you do on this forum just on movies. I think I represent the avg consumer.

A virtual tie? How so? 20,000 more individuals sold, throw in the trilogy, and this no where near close to a virtual tie.

Chill greekie. I was a joke. I was never put in the boot of the car. Sometimes I was strapped to the roof rack like baggage, but never locked in the boot.

Here's an idea though when you have the problem of playing your game and your kid wanting to watch the movie. Why don't you watch the Blu version with him? Spend some time with the kid. Couldn't hurt. But anyhow, I do understand how it can be a problem.

So this doesn't include the box sets??
I for one thought that the box set was a going to be a better seller... but either way it has to sell pretty high too. That's what I bought my wife.
I bet this will sell more than the 190k that Paramount claimed they sold too! HAHA!

it is a virtual tie - we don't know the exact numbers of transformers - just that its between 100-140k or so. 130k of spidey if my math is correct is in that same range. I had hoped/expected with the fact that bluray outsells hd dvd 2-1 in software -- we should have seen a 200-250k plus week for Spidey easily.

So now I'm a bad parent? You tell me to chill, but then shoot another one across my bow?

I do watch it with him the first 3 times, but when kids get new movies they want to watch it ALL the time. He's already watched transformers like 30 times already.

WTF? Where did I say you were a bad parent? Jeez. All I suggested was when your kid wanted to watch the movie, watch it with him. My kids are grown and gone, and believe me, there are times when I wish they were back home so we could do things together again.

wow i didnt think Rat would do well at all... and i see its on Amazons #4 ranking for all DVD/Hi-Def media and cars is #10 the only HDDVD title is transformers at #48

guess i underestimated all the families with blu

that'd be assuming everyone with a BD player would buy Spidey 3, i wasnt going to buy Spidey3 cuz well i didnt really like it, but i picked up the boxset cuz i liked the first 2 and i wanted to support BD, im sure a lot of others were just like "whatever, maybe at christmas"

That is a huge feat for a Disney movie that really didn't do that well compared to Cars, Incredibles, etc.....

I really think Disney needs to take a page from HD Dud and give a discount to buy both versions. Heck, I have to be able to play it in my car, the kids TV, etc.......
I have no doubt that it will sell more than 130,000 copies. People who have BD, with a few exceptions, are going to buy the Blu-Ray version and will not settle for the SD version. They are going to want the best possible version of the movie. I don't buy the argument that it is only a kids movie so I'll just get it on DVD and bypass the Blu-Ray version. The same argument could be said for Transformers and Spider-Man 3. Transformers was not a combo. Anyway, I just buy the DVD version too since I can get it for $12.99 People who buy Blu-Ray because of the picture and sound quality will want that, not the DVD version. Disney always sells huge.

Since the recent events happening at the other forum, I'm beginning to sense a disturbance in the force here.

Actually, we know they sold between 90 and 110k, spidey was 130k. 130>110. Throw in the trilogies, and you have your number of around 200k.

u guys are too funny. I'm sorry -- Spidey dominated transformers -- is that better? Thats obviousy what u want to hear - even if its not fact. FYI - i'm a full bluray backer --- panny dmp-bd10a owner - - but whats wrong with questioning numbers and debating things-- vs just saying - "yeah we're better than them - everything they say is spin - everything we say is truth" -- its like republicans vs democrats.
