I like Edward Zwick so I will probably get this if I have the cash tomorrow.

I found it for $13 at a Walmart Superstore in the Cincinnati area.

Above is the actual cover art.

Just finished...

Bottom-line a definitely improvement and if you are a fan of this film, you will appreciate the Bluray.

Now I caution when I describe this. If you are looking for a razor-sharp picture, this is not the film. This film was beautifully shot with a diffused look, so you didn't have razor sharp images when the film was released. Now, having said that, what you have is a beautifully diffused picture, with accurate colors and sharpness and enough fine detail comes through the image. I found the picture a tad dark. Then again that's the way I found the most recent DVD release. Still, taking into account how diffused this film is shot, it's a marvelous picture!

I didn't find the DTS-MA a quantum leap over the DD/DTS tracks of the past, but it's a definite improvement. I found definite improvement in the dialogue. In fact, I heard some background dialogue I'd never noticed before. I did find I had to boost the volume over the regular setting for most of my Sony titles about 4 bumps. Still after the adjustment, quite a bit of improvement, though lacking in the finest of detail. Still a very solid surround sound track.

I think fans of this film will be very happy!!!

I went to Best Buy and had them price match HMV's price of 16.99, the clerk didn't even bother to check the site and see that no HMV store within 5000km has it in stock. I was worried they wouldn't do it because HMV had a different picture than everyone else. But then I got to Best Buy and found out that was the actual cover art.

Seems this was a very strange release schedule. Some places got them, some didn't. I began to become suspicious when BEST BUY was advertising it as ONLINE ONLY. I was in a Best Buy before I found it at Walmart, and I checked their Kiosk, which said they had no discs in a 50 mile radius.

I feel very fortunate to have found a copy at Walmart.

I also picked mine up at Walmart for $13. I have not yet played the disc, but the extras on the back read:

-Commentary from Director Ed Zwick and Actor Brad Pitt
-Deleted Scenes
-Completely Remastered!
-Featurettes and more!

I picked it up tonight at Walmart. It looks like it's their regular price, which is great for a brand new release, though it is obviously a catalog title.

I am very interested to learn more about this. I am picking this up for the wife regardless but I am curious as to why they would remaster something that already had pretty good reviews in the first press.

The title looks extremely good with great colors, black levels and detail. Is it razor sharp as posted prior no, but the transfer is very much above average. If I were to guess the reason is because the film was scanned a 2K resolution. For $13 though no complaints here at all. Sony continues to due a great job with catalog titles.

My local Walmart didn't receive any copies! But I did get the non-digibook version of A River Runs Through It for $13, so I didn't leave empty-handed
