Are you talking about Blu-rays or 4K UHD-BDs? Because for the UHDs they *have* to have been remastered with a HDR pass and 4K scan.

Yeah, there's plenty of bad CG in the film but that's because they had an unbelievable post-production crunch. The VFX supervisor said he needed at least another year to properly do the amount of shots they were asking.

That said: there's a lot of pretty good CG shots in the film IMO.

A lot of decent CG shots or not, we're talking about this film yeaaaaaaaars later, and the only thing anyone can talk about anymore is the finale... because of ole' Scorp King. Not exactly the lasting legacy that film probably wanted.

Too bad, because it's still quite a bit of fun.

Who's up for semantics? He said "nice" new remasters, not some doddery old HD transfer upscaled and given an HDR grade which is what I fear the first two movies will receive after The Bourne Debacle. That's classed as "remastered" for sure but the old saying about lipstick on a pig springs to mind.

I saw Mummy Returns in the theater and remember pretty vividly how horrible I thought the CG looked. It was bad when it came out, not just bad on retrospect. Granted I was more of a CG hater back then than most of the audience, but still, it stood out as particularly bad.

Well, hopefully Universal got the message and they won't half-arse it...

We're all hoping for that, but the lack of a new film transfer on the latest Mummy re-releases is not a good sign. Not good at all.

Unless they're just tryna squeeze the last few bucks out of the older scans before unleashing the new ones?

Default Oh dear, its Universal and catalogue titles.

Tread carefully folks. I have the first two films already on blu ray and I detested the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Any hopes for a miracle that Universal doesn't use the same dated master?

The link on the front page states a May 22 Scandinavian release. Any news on a US or UK release?

Also, according to the link on the first page:

Mummy trilogy UHD $33 each = $99
Mummy trilogy Blu-ray 3-pack with all three movies = $11

That sure better be some mindblowingly good transfers that completely blows the Blu-rays out of the water in order for me to buy the 4K versions of even the first film!
And in my case I already own the trilogy pack on BD so this needs to be good.

I think the first ending is somewhat disappointing regarding the Imhotep-Anck Su Namun story, because in that one she only shows up as the pitiful mummy thing, she's a prop more than a character, doesn't really interact with Imhotep. You could say this is partly intentional as contrast to her sexy appereance in the prologue. But because she's such a commanding presence in the prologue, to me this ending is a letdown that way.

The first movie is a fun adventure, with likable heroes that must overcome a "monster" villain, but there's not much else going on between them, the pairing is accidental. The heroes just happen to be in his way, sort of. Each has their own typical little goals and themes. As bad as the sequel is in some respects, the script actually has more "resonance" and all the characters are connected, not only with backstory but also the parallelism between the two couples. The second movie doesn't really bring back Anck Su Namun, but in featuring a proxy for her, it actually develops the Imhotep character and his "tragedy" better, and gives him a semblance of an arch. His demise is more touching and to me it feels more "final", and thematically it has something to do with the heroes, tieing it all together, instead of being just his own thing.

Finally, another reason why the second ending feels more definitive to me, I'll remind you that Imhotep's last words in the first ending are "death is only the beginning". There may be many valid interpretations of that, but one of them surely is "hello, sequel!".
Thumbs up! A very interesting read. I love posts like this which makes me see a film I've seen a dozen times in a new light.

US release date is May 16. With or without "The Mummy Fandango Cash".

The Mummy Ultimate Trilogy 4K Blu-ray

The Mummy Ultimate Trilogy 4K + The Mummy Fandango Cash Blu-ray

You're comparing an unreleased product SRP with a sale priced item...

And in any case, where are you seeing the trilogy for $11?

Amazon lists theirs for $35

Thanks. The first post in this thread only lists the scandinavian release so I thought maybe it was some sort of Scandinavian thing only.

From the same site that it is linked to in the original post (the Scandinavian site). That site sells the BD trilogy for $11 (if you convert SEK into USD) and each individual release on UHD for $33.
http://cdon.se/film/mumien_trilogy_(...disc)-25936137

And yes I'm aware I'm comparing a campaign item to a brand new UHD release, but my point was that given the insane Scandinavian UHD prices on catalogue titles then this UHD release better be so good it completely wipes the floor with the BDs in order to justify buying the trilogy on UHD for $99 instead of buying the trilogy on BD for $11.

Some of these UHD titles definitely make the price increase a little hard to take. Movies I got for $5 going for $30? Ouch! I'm sure that happened in the early days of DVD->BD though. Unless you're a super rabid early adopter I would guess a ton of UHD stuff like Salt and 3:10 to Yuma is a distant bargain buy for most.

^ ugh you got me all hot and bothered, I thought you meant the 4K trilogy was $35. Would've snagged it at that price.

Does this mean there is a chance The Mummy's film master got lost in that fire?

I have my UK boxset in 1080p I imported years ago for less than half what the American release was going for at the time. That suits me fine. Not going to re buy all that much. Rent money is a greater priority lol
