I think the effects show their TV roots most of the time, but agree to disagree. In any event I'll have to hear these are a massive upgrade if they want me to buy them all again.

The blu-rays look and sound nice enough to me, I can't see the UHDs being much of an improvement.Happy with my set so far.

I've watched the majority of this projected at home and to be honest, like others have said it plays better on a big screen. They use close ups sparingly, which helps. However, its definitely aimed for average sized TV sets as I've seen quite a few extreme long shots where character dialogue does't match up with the shot, which would go unnoticeable on 99% of screens.

Still a very common thing on TV shows, yeah, though movies have their fair share of ADR hiccups even today. Wait until the GoT UHDs are released and people start complaining about "lip sync problems", I'm calling it right now.

If WB can sell a dog like Justice League for $30 (UHD), it stands to reason that not only they can sell individual seasons of GOT (UHD) at $40 or $50, but that they can sell a GOT 8-season UHD box set containing all of the extras and exclusives for north of $200.

What's a bit of a muddle for the box set is that they may wait until the GOT follow-up is ready for release, which could be as late as 2021/2022, although if they're smart they'll have it ready by late 2020.

So, while I'd want to revisit GOT 1 to 7 in 4K/UHD before season 8, it's unlikely that I will buy the individual seasons on disc (I have four of the seven already on Blu), especially if they are that expensive and don't include all of the extras and retail exclusives.

Personally, I believe HBO would be better served by releasing all seven seasons at once, otherwise they would be leading with the season that is the least likely to wow consumers and incentivize the jump to UHD.

Release Season 7 in UHD, independently or along with the rest, take your pick of the best scenes, give it a reasonable price, and they'll sell like hotcakes.

Yeah I think for us non-hardcore fans waiting for a UHD complete series set in some distant black Friday sale makes the most sense.

Yeah, I’ll wait for a complete 4K set before double dipping.
I want to rewatch Breaking Bad really bad, but I know with my luck I’ll get halfway through and the 4K set will be announced.

I read that seasons 1 to 3 were shot in 1080p, only season 4 and on were shot in 4k. Can anyone confirm? I haven’t read the rest of the thread, maybe this is already answered.

Yes! When the complete set comes out, day 1 purchase!
This show is already stunning on normal blu-ray, can only imagine how it will look in 4K with HDR.

You can bet your ass this will be $80-90 when it comes out. This is HBO were talking about not Warner like Westworld was.

Just Season 1. Everything following was a blend of 2.8 and 3.2K.

Of course it's mastered at 2K.

I certainly hope so. That will give me all the motivation I need in order to pass on them.

Honestly, the more I think about it, I don't think these sets are going to be big sellers. That's mostly reflective of their prices. HBO has been milking this series for long enough. It's one of my favorite shows of all time, but at the same time people are over it, too. It's dumb that we have to wait until 2019 for the series' conclusion. I think they would be better served by waiting a couple years to release these sets. You can even tell from the (number of) responses in this thread that the show's hype has cooled off.

GOT is a monster, and the info below doesn't account for the fact it is the most pirated show at present/in history:

Quote:
The “Game of Thrones” Season 7 finale set another ratings high with 16.5 million viewers on Sunday night, according to Nielsen data.

That number includes people who watched the episode as it aired and night-of streams. The linear ratings alone put the series at 12.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched episode in series history. The 12.1 million number also represents a 36% increase over the Season 6 finale, which drew 8.9 million viewers in 2016.

This is the latest in a series of ratings records set by the penultimate season of the HBO fantasy series. In Live+Same Day ratings, the series is up over 20% in both total viewers and the key adults 18-49 demographic. The season premiere set the pace with an incredible 4.7 rating in the key demo and 10.1 million viewers in linear viewing alone, with 16.1 million total viewers when streaming numbers were added. Episode 5 pushed the mark even higher, drawing a 5.0 rating and 10.7 million viewers.

Episodes of the current season are averaging 30.6 million viewers, up nearly 8 million viewers from the same point in time last season (+35%).

Pre-order is now live in France, where it currently says it will be four discs, released on June 6th, 2018, for €50,16 (VAT included, or €41,80 without VAT before shipping to the USA), which makes it about $61.50.
