I've seen the movie twice, once in standard 2D and once in IMAX 3D (real IMAX [97ft x 76ft]). The movie sets a new standard for cinematic spectacle; despite being a solo / origin film, its final set piece puts that of Infinity War to shame, all the while setting a precedent by being the first live-action film to depict a full-fledged Star-Wars sized battle underwater. Speaking of underwater, I'm perplexed as to how the the VFX artists managed to realistically simulate the appearance and movement of hair underwater; it looks absolutely real. In fact, every aspect of the actors in the underwater sequences (which comprise a majority of the movie) looks real, such as how they swim, how they float, how the fabric of their clothes moves, etc; this movie sets a new standard for visual effects, such as how Avatar set a standard for visual effects and 3D when it was released. As for the action itself, it's very well directed, shot, and edited, consisting of wide shots and very few cuts and very good choreography. The cinematography in general is breathtaking, as the film is filled with amazing vistas and has a varied and vibrant color palette.

As for the story, it's simple and admittedly unoriginal, but its execution is very entertaining and sprinkled with emotional moments throughout, particularly in regard to the development of Arthur and Mera's acquaintance with one another and Arthur's acceptance of his duty to become King of Atlantis. My favorite part of the film and the part that I consider to be the most emotional is this one:

I won't spoil its context.

There’s already cover art for this? What is going on here? There’s one for this, Spider-Man, Mary Poppins, etc. They are really focused on getting these films out on home, aren’t they?

This movie has the best special effects I’ve ever seen. It wouldn’t surprise me if this ends up being the best looking UHD blu ray so far

Can't wait to watch this with my better half. Canceled my Alamo screening for a IMAX screening when I found out how it was filmed. Very excited for tonight.

What do you mean "how it was filmed"? It was shot on Alexa, and not even the large format version at that. Or do you mean them removing the letterboxing for the "IMAX" version? Woo, and indeed, hoo.

"Presented" if that is better for you.

Either way with IMAX enhanced being pushed so strong in 2019 and WB committing to 10+ soon. I hope we get this in IMAX ENCHANCED with so much of it being presented in that format.

I saw the movie in IMAX 3D yesterday on a real, full-sized IMAX screen (97ft x 76ft @ AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13), but I don't recall ever seeing a scene that filled out the entire 1:1.43 aspect ratio, though I did see more than plenty that appeared to be 1:1.90 (most of the movie seemed to be in this aspect ratio). I say this because I could see that there were always thin black bars at the very top of the screen.

I saw it in IMAX as well. 2D version though, but I noticed very thin black bars at the top. Still looked jaw dropping though!

At which theater? Because there are very few real IMAX theaters in the country; most IMAX auditoriums have screens that were converted from regular theater screens and are therefore not as large as genuine IMAX screens and don't support the original, full IMAX aspect ratio of 1:1.43 but only support 1:1.90. So, if you saw thin black bars at the very top of the screen as well, maybe both you and I are mistaken about about them and whether or not they are indications that the aspect ratio of the movie was not what we thought it was.

Just watched this in IMAX. Excellent film putting DCEU back on the map.

3D was average. Some scenes really popped but I think this will look incredible on 4K UHD with HDR.

Sound was demo worthy unlike these Disney Atmouse mixes.

This is probably one of the best standalone superhero movie I have ever seen.

Came back from it, the movie was pretty good, but the script needed more polishing prior, however Wan keeps this movie moving along at a borderline breakneck pace.

I'll probably give this another rewatch since they kind of throw everything at you, and Atlanis....wow....just wow..... I wish I could go there, and I wish we had stayed there longer, so I hope in AQ2 we get to spend more time there, because I need an octopus playing drums in my life.

Just a great time at the movies. This is probably the best of the DCEU films, and could easily go toe to toe with most of Marvel's output.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying it but it's such a shame to read stuff like this IMO. The DC movies (like the X-Men movies) were interesting because they were different. Making them just copy the Marvel movie formula is a bummer, as far as I'm concerned.

It's predictable as fupp but inventive and fun.
Did it have an imax ratio exclusive?
