I just bought the SC version yesterday from Amazon.uk. I am in the US and don’t have a region-free player, so I would really only be enjoying the film in 4K and not the extras. I just read about this announcement and thankfully was able to cancel my order while it was preparing to ship.

It’s really cool to see that Shout! Factory is doing “They Live” on 4K UltraHD Blu-ray. I have the Studio Canal releases and I’ll gladly pick up the SF releases if they decide to do: “Escape From New York, Prince of Darkness and The Fog”. I’m hoping that “The Fog” will have the fixed audio. If anyone is wondering, the audio is sped up on the SC release. I literally watched it last night and instantly noticed that something was definitely wrong with the pitch of the audio. Did anybody else have this issue? I ordered the standard version from amazon.co.uk last night to see if my disc is defective. I did look up on the forums regarding this issue and found that some had the same issue. Either way please let me know if any of you have the same audio issue.

Yes, the audio is pitched up on The Fog. Not a problem for me as I'm so used to watching the movie in PAL that the chipmunk version is kinda burned into my brain, but it'll stand out like a sore thumb to others. The 2.0 audio isn't the original mono either, it's just a downmix of the 5.1, but as it's not some horrible revisionist mix to start with then I can live with that too. 2.0 sounds better than the 5.1 even, as there's some audible 'flutter' on sustained music notes in the 5.1 but not the 2.0.

All that waffle aside, if Shout were to do a UHD of The Fog that had the OG mono at the proper pitch then I'd rebuy it for that in a heartbeat.

That's what I'm hoping for.

I don't think Duplitech did the work on the "Hannibal" 4K nor do much work for Kino's Blus. The majority of Duplitech encoded-discs have audio commentaries in DTS-HD MA rather than Dolby Digital and the commentary track for "Hannibal" is in DD (along with most of Kino's newer releases when there's a commentary track).

I am wondering if the standard Blu-ray in this release will actually contain the 4K remaster or just be the same disc Scream released awhile ago.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless there are new special features, I doubt it will be a new 1080 blu ray.

I noticed the audio issue at once, I've seen The Fog so many times it stood out like a sore thumb. The 4K and the blu-ray both have the same pitch problem. I'm really hoping for a U.S. release that will fix the problem.

Shout only has so much money to sink into releases, I'm thinking they'll most likely just pair the 4K with the original disc as well. (Though I'm hoping to be wrong. I don't have a 4K player yet myself, so I always love and appreciate remastered 1080p discs.)

if shout can release this on a uhd blu ray with hdr than bill and ted 1 and 2 should be done on uhd blu ray with hdr. i mean the first has a 4k ud release and bogus journey just got a new 4k transfer. so they should try to work something out with the studio that owns the films.

I just hope that if someone releases THE FOG again with OG mono, they clean it up a bit. I'm as pure a purist as you're going to find; I watch literally every legacy mix I can find, from GONE WITH THE WIND to THE GODFATHER... and I absolutely choose "mono" or "stereo" on every John Carpenter flick (the scores, in particular, just sound "right" in the original mixes).... but THE FOG release from Scream Factory has the only OG mono I skip. The volume levels are all over the place, and there are so many crackles and pops. It's like listening to an original optical track -- but in the worst possible way. As Geoff said, the 5.1 on that title thankfully isn't terribly revisionist, but man oh man I'd love a real, cleaned-up OG mono track for that flick.

And now back to THEY LIVE, already in progress....

Well I'll be damned. I thought something was "different" about the audio on the remastered Fog blu ray but couldn't put my finger on it. Just compared it with the SF and noticed the sped up audio. Should've figured it would've been too much for properly pitched audio. What a disappointment.

Well I love the movie just as much as the next person but why double dip it on 4K when there’s plenty others out there. Heck I still thing not doing the Friday the 13th set was a missed opportunity. They can even do the same for Elm Street. Maybe if it’s a new scam or something then I still may get the 4K of They Live. The Carpenter releases are obviously popular & big sellers, but I’ve already invested in the majority of them so no reason to double dip.

Unfortunately, Paramount isn't licensing UHD rights.

We don't know yet. I'm sure it will have its own slate of issues given their encoding of The Deer Hunter. Probably pick your poison.

It was okay. As good as the best major studio efforts? No. A little dark with crushed blacks in spots and different scenes from the SC version with some questionable compression.
