Cool, glad you enjoy it. Still I'd say that's a niche within a niche within a niche, so it doesn't surprise me Uni sees a market for a UHD here. Hopefully everyone's happy.

Yeah, I think fewer and fewer of us are going to be 3D-capable as the years go by. TVs break, whether it's the motherboard or backlight or whatever going out. Uneven pixel wear aka burn-in on OLEDs (and those 2016 OLEDs, as great as their 3D may be, their panels don't last as long as later models). People change TVs even when there's nothing wrong with them, because they want to upgrade to something newer/better. And if you buy a post-2016 TV, it's not going to support 3D.

That's why I'm not worried about 3D movies being released on UHD, personally.

Oh, absolutely - I'm totally glad it's coming out, and at some point if it gets to be a sale title like the others have (I'm sure it will) I'm sure I'll pick it up just out of curiosity of what they were able to do with it (given it's half a 35MM frame blown up to begin with), but until they pry that 3D TV out of my cold dead hands, I do think I'll keep watching that version for this film in particular.

They can't be - unless they include a 3D Blu-ray in the package like Avatar - the UHD codec doesn't even have a setting for it.

Thankfully, with this film, Universal made the 3D version super-common and easy to get already for those that want it, so I see why there was no need to include it here and make everyone else pay more for a disc so easily obtainable.

That's what I meant. 3D movies released on UHD can't be in 3D because the format doesn't support it. This of course makes them less interesting to some, but personally I'm not worried about it, in part because I can't even buy a TV that does 3D anymore anyway.

That's what I was trying to say.

Sintron ST07-BT model - I have two, unfortunately they seem discontinued now, I really wish I had bought 4. That company only seems to be selling ones specifically for projectors now, and they aren't the wrap-around kind like these ones are (which I greatly prefer for blocking out side light).

I have been meaning to look around and see what the other options are now as I would like a few more for when we have guests over.

The technology in general just seems greatly improved - could not believe how good the newer glasses are than the ones they actually made when these TVs were in production. I compared them back to back with my higher-end Active3D brand ones I originally bought when I got the TV, and taking them on and off switching and it quite literally was night and day - the picture was easily twice as bright and looks amazing. And absolutely no eye strain, able to watch an entire film start to finish and not feel like my eyes need a break.

Heh. If I had a penny for every time someone recommended miracle glasses that cured all of active 3D's ills only for them to look exactly the same I'd have, like, 12p. Point being I've been burned so many times and it's all just snake oil. If you're getting what you're getting then great, can't argue with that, but I'm done chasing magic solutions.

Calling Jaws 2 bad should be a crime .. one of the best horror sequels up there with Psycho 2 and Halloween 2. I enjoy the whole series for different reasons like the third being set at Seaworld and The banana raft scene from Revenge

I do wish Hank Searls had gotten the chance to write the novelization. He did such a fantastic job with Jaws 2 that I could have seen him improving on Jaws 3. Oh well, what could have been.

I've always loved Jaws 2 and I wouldn't say it's bad per se but it is quite inferior to the original, I must admit. I think the pace drags a little bit about two thirds of the way through the film and it absolutely lacks the momentous pacing of the original.

I give it points though for coming up with a new way of killing the shark other than blowing it up like they do in literally every other Jaws movie. And there's some great sequences (the attack on the sailboats, the attack on Eddie and Tina, the waterskier, the scuba divers at the beginning, etc.) and John Williams' score for Jaws 2 is one of my favs of his. Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton are also quite good in it.

For a sequel that has absolutely no reason whatsoever to exist, it's about 10x better than it has any right to be. It was just always going to be inferior to the original, those were some big shoes to fill.

Indeed. After using several active sets, including Panasonic and Samsung, both LCD and plasma, my LG passive set was a revelation in terms of brightness/flickering, and especially the crosstalk/ghosting.

to be fair, the shark in jaws 2 is doing way more than what they were able to do in the first one. that’s a moment that maybe lasts a second on scree, and this is in motion. this was pre vcr, so they didn’t have the idea that people were going to screen shot or frame by frame something to catch a bad angle.

I'll take 3D over 4k every time. Stick rockin' my 2016 LG 3D/4k TV and it's my prized possession. There are a few titles I feel offers a fantastic experience in both 3D and 4k, like Passengers, Mortal Engines, and It came from Outer Space, all of which had true 4k releases, unlike many modern 3D films that are just upscaled to 4k due to them being finished in 2k. Those films look stunning in 3D and 4k, with amazing clarity and robust HDR presentations; you can't lose either way.

But in general, especially for classic 3D films from the 50's-80's, I'll take the 3D version over the 4k every time.

I do understand the shrinking market, brought upon by the TV manufacturers dropping 3D to push for the "next big thing", which was 4k/HDR. Samsung is always willing to try and turn the next stupid idea into the next must-have piece of tech, like their curved screens, which made no sense at the size they sold them at, and flopped badly, so at least UHD is an actual format that brings positives (and negatives) to the viewers. But I feel many 3D lovers are still holding onto their 2016 sets for dear life, hoping they hang on until a miracle happens and somehow we get another 3D model at some point down the road (as unlikely as that is). There's still a lot of people who own collections of 3D discs and they're not about to toss them all out just because the manufacturers want them to. Heck, we still get new 3D titles on blu-ray. I have a new vintage 3D title getting charged today from Kickstarter from the 3DFilmArchive.

Many sadly look upon 3D as a needless fad, but I recognize it as a valid photographic tool in the toolbox which has been in use in films for over a century. And I still think the general public has a lot of fun with 3D in the theatre. The audience was loving the original Jaws in 3D when it got a short summer release a couple years ago. I just think most people can't be bothered with it at home these days. And it's unfortunate that I have to stay stuck at 2016 even though there are certainly better 4k sets out there now, just because I don't want to lose 3D.

Well of course I'll take the 50's-era 3D over anything from the 80's. But there are several flawed 3D gems from the 80's (and 70's too). The shooting process used in the 80's 3D films are what draws most of them down. That, and many just aren't great films (like Jaws 3D). Friday the 13th, Amityville 3D and Spacehunter being a few examples of some of the better 80's 3D films.

Nice collection! Is that "Jaws the game" from the 70's I see in there with the shark in the box? I was given that for Christmas one year, long before I actually saw the film.

Kind of a tangent but I really like a curved monitor. I always thought it was kind of a dumb idea but once I got one by sort of accident I actually fell in love with it. At a desk it really does make it more immersive and is great for when I rarely still play shooter games.

For a living room/media room TV though I can't ever see wanting one.

The first 3D set I had was a passive Sony and it was astonishing, like looking thru a window, virtually no crosstalk...but as the panel threw away every other line in 3D (as the polariser was only half-rez) without pre-filtering the image it had dreadful aliasing. Then the next set(s) were active Sonys, much betterer resolution...but the crosstalk was fookin dreadful. *le sigh*

Can't remember the last time I put on the goggles, but I've kept a bunch of 3D discs just in case it gets a resurgence in the future. I loves my 3D, but I loves 4K even more.
