I'll admit, I have bought something from Monster before, but only because Buy.com had a sick deal on it. Also, it's been a nice addition to my home theater. It actually cleaned up some electric/grounding feedback that I was getting on my projector, and has provided a sharper picture. I think I paid around $100 for it:
This thing: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Refere...4SZN1XQTK4YQCM But otherwise, their cables are a joke (considering the price). I know people around here are big on monoprice for cables, but I've been a big fan of bluejeanscable for a few years. Excellent products, great prices, and killer customer service. |

Also, as the owner of Blue Jeans Cables pointed out, they basically got sued just for selling cables. The cables themselves had absolutely no similarity to Monster cables besides the basics of being an AV cable. |

Monster Cable's products are indeed overpriced. On top of that their packaging is misleading. For items like HDMI cables, they deliberately do not use terms like HDMI 1.3a. Instead they throw up some "5000" or "10000" bullcrap on there. It lets them get away with selling older HDMI 1.1 and 1.2 version cables at a high premium. And then they gouge the customer for $150 for a glorified HDMI 1.3a cable. I have seriously considered bringing this to the attention of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. I strongly believe Monster is screwing consumers in my state with this stuff. Recently, I helped a good friend of mine pick out a new HDTV (he bought a Series 7 52" Samsung). Circuit City had it at the lowest price. Sure enough, the sales guys there were doing the hard sell on the Monster Cables, throwing out how the 10000 series cable was needed. I bluntly told them it was a lot of crap and that a 6' long Phillips HDMI 1.3a cable with gold connectors for $30 at Wal-Mart would do just as well. The sales guys didn't have the nerve to try to tell me I was wrong. |
