Universal to make DTS-HD MA the standard for Blu-ray

What Universal to use DTS-HD MA as their Blu-ray standard ? Have they gone insane ? They should have followed the Warner route by giving lossy DD @ 640 Kbps. Shame on them.

That was news I was waiting for! Hopefully they will go for a descent PQ (not overcompressing as they did with many DVD's). Then they will belong to the top again!

Universal in a way appologize from beating us at first ,so from now and on is using DTSHDMA GORGEOUS and Marvelous.

Awaiting Bourne trilogy in DTSHDMA audio and many more.

Crongratulation Universal on choosing the lossless sound i'm comfortable with.

The discs themselves were never the problem. Certain receivers had poorly implemented ICs for their DTS-HD MA decoding. It has been fixed already if you update the receiver.

F.Y.I. DTS designed the ICs. The "bombs" are certain sequences in the encodings themselves. It was up to Onkyo and the others to engineer a workaround for their screwup.

Besides, I'm betting Cloverfield will knock the socks off of any DTS-MA track out there.

Louder = better? Usually that means that the recording in question has less dynamic range. Something CD engineers have had to deal with in the iPod generation: boosting the lows and lowering the highs to compensate for poor ears & equipment.

Fox, MGM (via Fox), New Line (may change with Warner taking over), Universal = DTS-HD MA

This is great news. My HDMI Audio AVR is being delivered today, I can't wait to check out DTSMA!

And,.. Since I was never sucker enough to buy HD DUD,... I don't have to double dip on the Universal releases. It's all being done right the first time. Very happy to see they worked the kinks out on the other format. I guess HD DUD wasn't completely worthless.

PeterTHX, dont be a hater, DTS HD MA is a fine codec and everyone is just happy to get lossless from Universal first and foremost. Save the DTS bashing for later!

I'm thrilled that Universal will be providing us with "lossless" audio though... bring on "Serenity" now!!

So there are titles that are being redone, including the Mummy releases that have already been announced. So they are not simply recycling their HD DVD video transfers, unless there was no real room for improvement.

Whatever the reason is here but Universal is using DTSHDMA audio which is far better than Dolby Digital plus used lately on HD-DVD .

Yes i'm looking to watch my movies with the best sound and picture available and this is going to happen with Universal.

I'm glad and waiting on higher temperature to watch my first title from universal using DTSHDMA audio.

So far as I know I won't be able to do dts hd ma with my Sony bdp s1. So that sucks. True hd would have a been a better fit. Only way is to buy a new machine. Sometimes being an early adopter sucks.

PeterTHX, chill. DTS-HD MA has a core built in that is DTS. My PS3 has always been able to listen to these even when it couldn't decode it, cause the core was there for it. So anyone that can't run the MA part can still hear it fine.
Sometimes I think the audiophiles out there get a little too into it and upset at the way everyone turned out. Ppl want cheap and easy, so the quality of the sound got worse, and now it is hard to find anything in decent quality anymore. Just be glad you can afford HD and surround sound and all that, most people can not.

Still, I am very glad Universal will use this as their standard. These movies promise to sound great when they are out!
