I posted about economics, not about SONY. Also, If I am not mistaken, the video is compressed on the disc, but leaves the player as uncompressed video, therefore the need for HDMI/DVI or 2nd best analogue component - which can deliver a great picture too. Any tinkering with the video at this point will reduce PQ.

I visited my sister last month, hadn't seen her in over a year. They had gotten their first HDTV a while back and they subscribed to satellite HD programming, but called the company about a month later asked why the HD picture was no better then analogue. The tech had hooked the box up using the composite video. Our satellite company did one better, and used the analogue RF signal to our 16:9 set. It's the same story wherever I go.
