I really don't care at all I just want the best looking picture possible. I have seen amazing looking film with that grainy presence and amazing looking film without any noticeable grain in sight. There are always going to be people who just look for ANYTHING to nitpick about. Just enjoy the movie.

Personally I don't really care if grain is removed from a film.

This topic reminds of the review for Shooter.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...55&show=review

I really liked the all too clean PQ for Shooter but Liebman personally prefers that grain be left in the film and gigged the film for it. At least that was my intrepretation of his review.

Here's a direct quote from his review of Shooter

Quote:

Encoded with the antiquated MPEG-2 codec, the transfer manages to look very good nonetheless, but it ultimately fails to deliver as a top-tier Blu-ray transfer based on all-too- clean look. The movie is almost completely grain free, which might satisfy some viewers, but left me wanting a truer theatrical look and feel that the presence of a bit of fine grain brings to a presentation. I did not see the film theatrically and I am not sure if some post-process grain removing was done, but it looked a bit too glossy and plastic-y to me.
Seems as if Greg Maltz, like Liebman, also prefers a true theatrical presentation of a film on blu-ray yet he still gives Iron Man a 5 out 5 for PQ after questioning whether there was any post process grain removal.

I guess you just have know what each reviewers' personal preferences are and how they grade a movie before you read their respective reviews.

I'd like to know how Liebman would score the PQ for Iron Man.

I guess i am the only one on this board who enjoys a good making of feature in an excelent PiP documentary.
Do you all feel the same way about TDK. That movie clearly begs for a good PiP documentary to see how Heath was arround the set. When there has been so many rumors about him being a method actor and not interact with the cast. Would really like to see him behind the scenes during TDK shooting in a PiP documentary.
Wouldn't you?

Buying a projector wouldnt add the grain back into a Blu-ray release that has had it removed.

I'm willing to pay that amount if the PQ and AQ are 5/5. I do think that every movie should have at least one commentary, preferably, with the director and/or writer(s).

This is actually one of the few Blu-ray releases where some of the extras kind of sound interesting to me. I wanna check out the Hall of Armor extra sounds cool.

The question of grain is a serious issue. I have seen BRs that are DNR'ed to death. Batman Begins was a bit too much of that problem. But Iron Man seemed to have lots of life left in the picture. I have to factor in things like color vibrancy and contrast and black level and the way the movie was shot. This BD was never going to look like "No Country" because that movie was just shot in a way that let the Coen Bros achieve gobs of detail. I couldn't bring myself to make any deduction for video definition. Audio definition was another issue. I felt it could have been produced a bit better. I'm not sure the video could have, and that was the reason for the scores.

Wait for the inevitable double dip on this movie. A movie like this was made to be reissued over and over again.

I didn't start this thread to complain about DNR,i was worried about the PQ because according to greg grain has been removed. i love movies that give off a theatrical look of what i saw at the theater,blu-ray is very good at that so why change it?

Way too much nitpicking going on. For the most part it seems like the PQ will be fantastic.

Removing any grain is BS and a disgrace to true film lovers everywhere! If people don't like grain, GO BACK TO DVD! Soon Blu-ray will be known as "Blu-wax" thanks to these people and their love for DNR Turn down your sharpness, film is not ment to look like VIDEO GAME

I'm sure the video rating is more along the lines of a 4.5 star presentation but the reviewers must hype up a huge title like this to keep sales rolling in.... Rant over

A project doesn't ADD grain.. holy cow

I'm amazed by everything I'm reading here.. not just you buddy but many here need to do their homework. Cleaning up flim removes high frequency detail... you know, the fine detail that make Blu-ray wonderful!! That's why everyone hates on Warner.. DNR kills detail and makes things like softer then it should be.

Your post is correct. However, that is not the case with Iron Man. GM's reviews was pretty detailed regarding the PQ of the film. Over at HDD Brake gives the PQ 4.5/5 and the AQ 5/5. Every reviewer will see things a little different.

Not to sound argumentative, but people have already pointed out that the theatrical run had visible grain. DNR can be used to various degrees.. In the case of Iron Man it doesn't look 'bad' based on screenshoots alone, but if it was visiable at the theaters, it should be visiable on Blu-ray. Paramount has been using a touch of DNR on many of their recent Blu-ray releases. Nothing terrible for the most part, but I can see it spot it and that's the disappointing part. Even on Transformers, the HD DVD version had more grain.. You can find that info over at AVSforum.com

Has anyone seen Paramount's Face/Off release? Now that's a piece of DNR work That is what we want to avoid on both new and catalog titles...
