Since it's already bumped. Saw a screening of this at the drive in.
Don't know if it was the Deaf Crocodile Restoration, but it looked great.

Was this recent? I did see some ads in US for specific cinema screenings

Last month. I didn't stay for the end of the credits to see if it had a title card about the restoration.

I’ll be optimistic and predict a 4K release by end of the year.

It's coming from Shout, and with their lineup for December is already out, so I don't see that happening. Probably 2024.

Genuinely, what the hell is taking Shout so damn long to give this a 4K release.

The restoration is already done. Shout's been skimping out on new extras for a lot of their 4Ks so I doubt that's what is holding it up. It's a Carpenter title which they love milking given the latest bout of steelbooks they're doing for Halloween and Prince Of Darkness.

And yet they've taken more priority with flopped from last year that are identical to the Blu-Rays quality wise or low effort releases like Ace Ventura barely even trying to include alternate versions let alone something worthy of the "Collector's Edition" moniker.

What is the hold up here.

Something has to be going on with licensing for it or the like.

No reason at all it should be taking this long. The 4K transfer was completed years ago.

I’m stumped.

Frankly at this point I hope Shout lost it and Arrow has it. (Wishful thinking)

That's like the only reason I can think of behind it but if that's the case you think someone like Deaf Crocodile would have said so given how much people asked them about it.

Instead they've basically just said "it's all set with Shout to release" with no indication there's anything else holding it up.

It's just bizzare.

Maybe Carpenter decided to play hardball in his later years. Another film he was involved with in some capacity, Philadelphia Experiment, is also mysteriously MIA. He was never exactly enamored of the Hollywood system and this is his way of righting past wrongs?

Yep, it's the only reason. Said the same in the Shout thread a while back. Once ShoutOfficial said no more Carpenter this year, it was a shoe in for the 50th.
