Let's have it out, On most hdtv threads you can almost guarantee there is a plasma vs lcd convo being held. This topic is all about personal preference, so no need to bash another users opinion. Please only use first hand experiences or reliable information when making a post. That being said, my vote goes to LCD
Although plasma's have better black levels, I prefer the brightness of an lcd. Just to make this known, imo, plasma as a technology are not the best hdtv's on the market. The Pioneer Kuro is |

Here is why I won't get PLASMA.
1. Plasma can tends to be much noisier than LCD because some panels have a fan to expel the extra heat it produces. 2. Lightning conditions is limited to low light or better yet complete darkness to watch tv using plasma than LCD. 3. Heat generated from Plasmas tends to be quite hot than LCD. 4. Screen size is smallr on Plasmas than LCD such as 40inch = Plasma while 42inch is LCD or 50 inch compare to 52inch LCD> 5. Plasma, you should "burn-in" at least 200 hours. Note: newer models have rotationg pixels or some sort which as you guess do not need to. But to be safe do the burn-in for 200 hours anyways. If you fail to do proper burn-in procedures then you will suffer IMAGE RENTENTION for the life of your TV!!! 6. Plasma are cheaper because of screen size. 7. Don't play video games on it because I had HUD burned in for life of the tv. My opinion only, don't respond Rischoe. |

i was apprehensive at first because of all of the mis-information that was flying around about burn in, but i took the plunge and I am so happy with my plasma, i could never go back to LCD. LCD has improved dramatically and blacks are good, but the LCD color pallet is far, far from natural, and plasma blacks are black, not nearly black like LCD, but black! It is all subjective of course but IMHO Plasma is the way to go if you want the most true representation of how film is supposed to look! |

to me true hdtv shouldn't have components and should self adjust the screen based on the video that makes the video pop off the screen like http://www.tru3d.com/technology/3d_d...isplay%20Works http://eng.3dtvv.com/production/survey/ http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/30/r...moed-on-video/ without glasses Last edited by big-bleu; 11-16-2008 at 06:34 PM. |

thats a shame....you should trash all TV's because of the way they look in stores not just plasma. I could say i will trash LCD because in the store the brightness coming from them being on torch mode burnt out my retina's
No TV's, none of them are calibrated, LCD's are set to torch mode, and none of us have 50000 megawatt light bulbs in our home! Nobody can make any kind of statement about a tv because they saw it in a store. The only way you can tell if the tv is the right one for you is to get it home and calibrate it, and that statement goes out to plasma and LCD |

sorry but I love my samsung LCD LN46A650. I started 2 1/2 years ago with a westinghouse 1080p 47" one of the first 1080p LCD's on the market. back then plasma had to many problems with burn in I have seen it from a friends plasma after playing games from the PS3 the HUD was on the tv for weeks. Plasma screens often cause so much heat inside the unit that manufacturers usually install a fan to cool it down while operating. This actually works very well, but on some models the noise that the fan makes can become an annoyance. now they are much better. but I still like LCD's. LCD's have bean arownd form the 70's and have gettin better and better. sorry but plasma will never be as good as a computer moniter witch is a LCD and the beast LCD out has a resolution of 7680X4320 maybe plasma can get better but not that good.
Sharp LCD monitors are products of a long history of research and development from one of the world's premier electronics manufacturers. The Sharp LCD first fascinated the world in the 1970's when Sharp engineers persevered to turn the dream of LCD application into a technological reality. |

I like plasma better, cos if you forget what you have already watched, you don't need a DVR to see it a month later :-)
